It is a masterpeice, one which will have a profound effect on anyone who watches it. ------------------------------------------ [ : RELEASE NOTES : ] I'd always wanted this series in its entirety, and found it difficult to locate, as i'm sure you know too well. The first season is everywhere on the good old internet, however the remainder of the series is the best part, and it's almost like it doesn't exist. I am broke and have been unable to purchase the dvds for myself to rip, so i have downloaded it from people who are not very well known on another network. It took me a very long time to get it, over a year to complete the collection, unfortunately. My pain is your gain, i am giving you this collection in a heartwarming celebration of me finally completing the last episode, so you do not have to go through the searching, the waiting, and the general bullshit that I did. I have failed to contact the person who ripped the series to thank him, so i am forced to re-release it with no credit given. I am not too happy about that. I thank all responsible, whoever they are. I've watched every single episode in this collection all the way through, every second has been checked to make sure it's complete and glitch free. If you've always wanted to add this to your collection, this is what you've been waiting for. Enjoy! ------------------------------------------ [ : QUALITY : ] As with most british TV series from the 70s, the rips released are generally critisized for quality. Anyone who watches lots of old BBC series (i.e. me), is probably used to poor quality regardless of era or format due to the source quality, and will consider the quality of these rips very much "above average". They are reasonably close to the DVD release, as true to the source as any other common XviD rip of tv series DVDs. The original source is, of course, early 70s british master tapes. If you don't sit a few inches from your screen, you won't notice any encoding flaws or tape flaws over the beauty of the show itself. The audio also has a slight hiss from the master tape. Just EQ to taste if it bothers you, it didn't bother me at all. The most important part is; They're great, and they're ALL HERE so you can ACTUALLY WATCH THE ENTIRE SERIES AT LONG LAST. Anyway, download and enjoy them, or don't, and miss out. Doesn't bother me. ------------------------------------------ Question: Why the hell is some of it in black and white, in the beginning of the first season, but not the first episode??? Answer: This is normal, color copies do not exist for several of the episodes. Wikipedia: "Due to an industrial dispute over extra payments for using newly-introduced colour equipment [union strike], the first six episodes of the first series were shot in black-and-white, and when [the strike was over], the first episode was remade in colour. The original black-and-white first episode is believed to be [chucked by the bbc]." Every episode from season 2 onward which was shown in color, is of course, in color. This only affects the first few episodes of season 1. There ARE no color versions of these episodes. ------------------------------------------ Question: Where are the "DVD extras"? Answer: I do have them here, but they simply are not as important as the complete set of regular season episodes. I will release them later under a different torrent if anyone likes? just to be clear, this is the entire series, including seasons 1-5 in it's entirety. (season 5 is extra long)
the rest of the torrents i've found have only reached season 1.
please tell your friends, we need a really fucking massive download/seed pool for this one as i'm sure lots of people will want it
i'm giving it all i can for bandwidth, and will not give up on it until it has a lot of seeds, but 24gb is certainly a strain for my wimpy connection

this is a brilliant torrent. the show is incredible, and the quality is V good. i have two comments: a few minutes are missing from the end of the last episode on series five. otherwise there are no complaints on quality. the second comment is that more people need to seed! it's a huge file, so it's understandable, but the low amount of seeders makes downloading unbearably slow, and the torrent is sure to die out soon. i will seed until i reach a ratio of 2, but after that i must delete it. everyone seed! don't let this torrent die!

Acorn has recently released the US version of "Upstairs Downstairs The Complete Series 40th Anniversary Collection". It's up on amazon, and has not been torrented yet to my knowledge.
That collection is going to be the best quality that can be had, because the original series was recorded on video tape instead of film, which is very unfortunate but there's nothing to be done about it. Quality will be slightly better than what you see here because they went back to the originals from iTV and did a better job of translating it to NTSC than previous collections.
That collection is also remarkable because it is the first and only edition with English subtitles for all 5 seasons. At present none of the subtitle sites have these; you will only be able to find subtitles for Season 1 and part of Season 2.

the problem is that only persons with low speed are seeding torrents. those with high speed just take them and exist. please high speed people, consider yourself a very special person that ca do a lot of good!
