Ondanks allerlei strubbelingen met de immigratiedienst zou hij daar tot zijn dood blijven wonen. In deze conventioneel opgezette documentaire blikken intimi van Lennon terug op die periode, onder wie platenproducent Klaus Voormann, Elton John en last but not least weduwe Yoko Ono. Uiteraard zijn de onverslijtbare liedjes, vaak als demo of concertfragment, voortdurend aanwezig. De New Yorkse jaren vallen uiteen in twee episodes: aanvankelijk laat Lennon luidruchtig van zich horen als muzikant en activist, maar na de geboorte van zoon Sean trekt hij zich terug uit de publiciteit om zich te wijden aan zijn taak als huisvader.
