@zogulusnig - i know its been months since you commented, but MKV movies (for anyone else that wants to know) usually have the best quality and can be watched with VLC.

Actually, that's not true. MKV is only a wrapper. It has nothing to do with picture quality. It's the video track inside the wrapper that determines picture quality.
