I get an error messege saying "Application has failed to start because mss32.dll was not found.Reinstalling the app. might fix the problem." There was never an install in the first place....any ideas?

@kieron, I found that the 1.1 patch had already been applied to one of the versions of BC that I used in the past. If you're trying to apply 1.1 in order to then apply the Kobayashi Maru mod, just try the KM. You might find that it will work fine.

This one works and you can play it but if you try to install any patches like 1.1 it will say "can not find a valid installation of star trek bridge commander and will now exit" or something to that effect. So therefore i dont believe you can add and mods, further patches or expansions. But .... it will play. It does work.

to ltcmdrdata. the game itself is based off a first person's view of what it is like to be a starship captain. it's very basic for a game, the graphics from first person on the brdige are very bad and what do you expect from jpg's and crappy polygons. however the viewer screen that portrays outside the ships view is far more better then any trek game by todays standards, the only one that comes remotely close would be legacy. and the info on this game has somehow missed the ferengi!

Does this game have the 1.1 patch installed? If not, there isn't a way to install it with the official patch installer. Keeps saying that it can't locate the directory, probably because you can't install the game with an application directory.

My advice: download a regular ISO of the game, install that, and then download this and use the Bridge Commander executable from this torrent to patch your regular installation to run without a physical CD.
The only reason you WOULDN'T want to do so is if you don't anticipate using the 1.1 game patch for mods. The installation EXE won't recognize your BC installation unless you actually install it from an ISO, and standalone mods don't behave well with this torrent
This is absolutely the only "No Cd" patching method I've found to work (after hours of frustrated searching.)
