Download "Astro" from the market, put the .apk's on the SD card from your computer, be sure to unmount the sd card from your G1, run Astro and browse to where you put the .apk's and click on the to install. Be sure to allow unknown .apk's to be installed in Settings/Applications/Unknown Sources.If you do not have root, you can't use apps2sd so at least you can have your apps with you to reinstall if you have to uninstall to make space for other stuff you wanna try out.
We will have root pretty soon though...I'm sure of it!
