http://www.remote-exploit.org/news.html:

We request the community to not mirror or torrent this release, or otherwise distribute it online without our knowledge. We are trying to gather statistics about bt3 downloads. If you would like to mirror BT3 then please:
1) Think again! Traffic generated by BT3 downloads is CRAZY.
2) Please contact us before doing so.
3) Send us monthly statistics of downloads for the iso.
If you would like to add a link to BackTrack downloads to your website, please use
http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack_download.html
as the download link.

geekmp3 (2008-07-14)

If they had the bandwidth on their website to support such a desire to gather statistics I would feel differently but they don't so I choose to download from here, with all of you, in a swarm.
Viva la torrents!

ossito (2008-07-16)

I totally agree with you geekmp3, I have been trying to download the usb version for 2 hours. Time to torrent that bad boy.

JimmyTheGent (2008-08-10)

I also agree with you both. After have several problems trying to DL from the main page, I decided to up the usb-final yesterday.

cthulhu83 (2008-08-14)

@BenSeine
When you have a problem with unofficial torrents, so make your own tracker and/or torrent! Where's the fucking problem?

cthulhu83 (2008-08-14)

And beseides that, your server is horribly slow!

Tormentor22 (2008-11-18)

bt3 site is so dam slow,, i would prefer to direct download it from the source for sure, but it cant go more than 30KBps, not only that,, I even cant go pass 60 MB of download it keeps on disconnecting,, apologies but ure server speed is like shit...

Crow_1 (2008-11-19)

Thanks d1spat3r for the up... BenSeine, I would love to download directly from Remote-Ex.. Just, took me 29minutes to get torrent. Will take more than a day for direct download... sorry man.

paulharmo (2008-11-29)

Same - it makes little sense to let a free live ISO download for a day when I can take advantage of my fiber connection and download it in 15 minutes.

paulharmo (2008-11-29)

Correction - 11 minutes and 8 seconds :D

slomdom (2008-12-04)

I was downloading from the remote-exploit site and my internet connection went out with 693 mb left, which means I have to start the 1 hour process again. It isn't efficient. torrent makes more sense: get with the times Ben Seine!

slomdom (2008-12-04)

Sorry I mean 2 mb left! One more minute and I would have had it!

themusicgod1 (2008-12-11)

In other words if you get a copy of this data from this swarm please be kind and tell the backtrack folks -- they are trying hard to bring us this quality software so please help them out in this, even if they don't understand basic internetting.

themusicgod1 (2008-12-12)

That being said--they *are* distributing GPLed software as part of their binary and as such they have no grounds to restrict you from seeding this, other than outside of your respect for their work(which compared to the work putting together the rest of backtrack's toolchain is rather small but it is still a lot of work)

dumbestcrayon (2008-12-16)

@BenSeine
I agree with everybody else.
If the BT3 servers could handle the bandwidth then it would be different. I started this same file on the BT3 website and it would not go higher than 125kbps. From this torrent I am downloading at 580kbps. Why don't you just torrent it yourself and link the torrent on the website? That way you can keep up with the downloads and still have a good download rate.

frogsmasher (2009-02-04)

Yeah the bt website is slow... unless you are smart and you use Firefox. I used Firefox with DTA download accelerator.... .75 Mbs Quicker than even the torrent was going.

Eth1c (2009-02-05)

Much respect to Seeders best speed's i've gotten via torrent in a very long time.

gostof (2009-02-10)

^^

thurioN (2009-02-10)

Started downloading from the site but when the top speed is around 100kb/s I prefer to use torrent.
Thanks for the UL!

_theBest_ (2009-02-19)

update lol backtrack4 beta is out and its ballin!!! i think people should know about it tpb, heck im to lazy lol.. nice upload... clean

rolechange (2009-02-22)

In reference to everyone on speed from the official site, I think it varies. Right now I'm grabbing version 4 beta, and I'm getting 300-500kbps, so I'm not complaining. However, I do have a problem with the hash check of the file I end up getting. I downloaded 3 Final (the same file that is on this torrent) from their site last night, burned it off, and I get errors, saying corrupted files. Thought it was my reading drive possibly, or the disc, so I burn another. Same situation. I check the MD5, and it's the WRONG value...thanks for wasting my discs due to your BS of 'download only from us!'. How about I just grab it here off of the torrent, and I know it's correct due to all the hash checks? I have read other people having the same issues, so I know it's not just me. If you people can't get on the boat in providing a mass download, let other people do it under your authorization; don't just tell people NO, you can't mirror it! Torrents do have download statistics in them you know.

kallumLTFC08 (2009-03-16)

i agree with everything here out torrents but i did what frogsmasher did and it worked! :) but only because recently installed XP is making my torrents painfully slow :(

trentnt (2009-03-29)

download from the website....
theres nothing wrong with that...
its free...
its fun.......
and you can get the usb version......
im all for anarchy but cmon.........
be cool...

dam , help me ppl !

rjharris79 (2009-09-01)

ok, i agree with the rest of you. this is much faster and more reliable, and with all the comments and help and helpful tips and instructions, downloading via torrent just makes so much more sense. having said that, i am in need of a little assistance. i donwloaded this torrent, used dvdapps (dvd decryptor) to burn it as an ISO, then booted to it. after loading for afew minutes, i get a fatal error message about not being able to find any bt3 files on the computer. i thought this was just a bootable dvd/cd, not something you have to install on the computer, in any case, i cannot find any kind of setup or instilation files in the .rar that i downloaded. can anyone help me, maybey with some instructions on how to use this? any help would be much appreciated.

Flor1an (2009-09-26)

@ NIVREKZ: The rar file you're talking about is the .ISO.
WinRar can also open .iso files. You should burn that file (not the files inside!!) on a dvd with a burning program, or when you are using mac, you can do it from the disk utility.

tennisboy1222 (2009-10-02)

backtrack 3 needs a tutorial on its uses....:D

Darkstar81 (2009-10-28)

thanx m8 will seed thebollox out of it :)

SevenTwentySeven (2009-12-29)

u need a image mounting software
u can find programs like poweriso, magic iso, daemon tools and alcohol 120% on the bay!
dont extract with winrar if you have winrar set as youre iso handling program

aorp16 (2009-12-29)

I downloaded the torrent and burn the .iso to a DVD and whenever i insert the Cd it just opens and shows me 2 folders (boot & BT3) is there something i need to do so i can install this program... this is the first time this happen i have downloaded other .iso and they ran fine if someone could please explain me what i have to do i would appreciated thank you and happy holidays!

snuper325 (2010-01-01)

This worked fine with my broadcom 54g wireless card. Mount it using ISO Burner. This didn't work on my new computer though maybe because of a newer broadcom card. I'm seeding this for a while since i know that backtracks website download speed suck.

arodriguez (2010-03-03)

Hey alchemic,
The ubiquity installer uses the ?toor? password by default.

sedela (2010-03-24)

thanks m,an

murtaza055 (2010-03-31)

will this work on windows xp??

catomaru (2010-06-13)

Okay let me describe this torrent in a list:
1. For all those who are unsure Backtrack 3 is a linux distribution used for security penetration.
2. Being an operating system like Ubuntu, Mac OS X, Windows ~, It needs to be installed via burning the .iso image to a disc. You may burn it to a dvd, cd, or use unetbootin for usb drive to install it. Google imgburn to burn disc image to disc. It's free.
3. And lastly it is quite simple to install. I'm 15, and have installed a multitude of linux distro's and Windows OS's. For the non-tech savy this is not a windows installer or executable. It is meant as a boot install disc.

alex3796 (2010-06-15)

Thanks a lot !

Mixalos7 (2010-07-06)

i cant INSTALL THIS THING WHERE IS THE .EXE IM TRYING TO INSTALL IT FOR HOURS CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TO DO??????

jzx450 (2010-08-19)

HOLY SH*T - I cannot believe how many repeated instances there are of individuals who don't seem to get this. STOP ASKING HOW TO RUN THIS THING!!! Hey how about this... Pretend like it is its own special operating system... Okay, and what needs to happen with an operating system children? THE GODDAMN THING NEEDS TO BE BOOTED AT THE STARTUP OF THE COMPUTER!! NO F*!CKING EXE!!! Does it work on such and such and such XP & Vista and f*!cking whatever? IT DOESN'T WORK ON SH*T!! YOU BOOT THE GODDAMN THING UP AT THE START OF THE COMPUTER!!!
#1) DOWNLOAD A FREE GODDAMN ISO BURNING PROGRAM - HERE... DEEPBURNER FREE 1.9 http://www.deepburner.com/?r=download INSTALL IT!!
#2) DON'T TOUCH THIS F*!KING .ISO FILE WHEN IT'S FINALLY DONE! - RUN DEEPBURNER, SELECT BURN ISO IMAGE, GET A NEW CD/DVD AND PUT IT IN THE F*!KING DRIVE!!! BROWSE TO THE LOCATION OF THIS .ISO FILE AND ADD IT WHERE IT SAYS IMAGE FILE, THEN BURN MOTHER F*!KER, BURN!!!
#3) WHEN IT'S DONE (IT GOES DAH DAH!!!) LEAVE THE DISC IN THE DRIVE... SHUT THE GODDAMN COMPUTER DOWN... RESTART... WHATEVER!!! JUST GET TO YOUR F!*CKING SYSTEM BIOS (DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT IS?) AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SETTINGS FOR BOOT SEQUENCE INDICATE THAT THE COMPUTER WILL ATTEMPT TO BOOT FROM CD DRIVE FIRST (OR AT THE VERY LEAST BEFORE AN ATTEMPT TO BOOT FROM THE HARD DRIVE) YOU KNOW, THE GODDAMN SEQUENCE!!
SOME OF YOU MIGHT HAVE A QUICK OPTION AT STARTUP (LIKE HITTING THE F12 KEY OR SOMETHING) WHICH BRINGS YOU RIGHT TO QUICK BOOT OPTIONS SCREEN - DISPLAYS YOUR 4 OR SO (NUMBERED 1-4 OR SO) BOOT UP OPTIONS... WHATEVER... 1)CD/DVD DRIVE 2)USB DRIVE 3)HDD (HARD DRIVE) 4)DISKETTE (FLOPPY DRIVE)
C'MON - FIGURE THIS OUT FROM HERE!!!
LISTEN, IF YOU SERIOUSLY HAVE TO ASK YOU NEED TO TAKE IT UPON YOURSELF TO LEARN MORE!! DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH THIS DOWNLOAD IF THAT'S THE CASE CUZ YOUR NOT READY FOR IT.
ALRIGHT - GOOD LUCK
