You can get this for free at perian.org. Note there is a virus out for macs that comes in the form of a codec so I would get this from the developers site just to be safe. This is a great codec pack unloader... Thanks anyway... Safty first

How to install this .component?
I try to copy it to /library/Quicktime but that doesn't work...

tomh2o: actually, from everything I've seen thus far abou this beta build, its private, so you can't get it for free from the website without being part of the closed beta. as far as it being a virus in disguise; i guess it could be but i would highly doubt it

This worked for me :
Copy and rename downloaded zipped file to : Perian.zip
Locate file Perian.prefpane, right (or ctrl) click and select "show folder contents"
Place downloaded zipped file (renamed) into the revealed folder : replacing the existing file.
For good measure, delete the perian.component file from your Quicktime folder and replace with the contents of the downloaded zipped file.
Hope it works for you too.
