Got to a second GOW load screen this time and then

guys you'll definitely have to dload the xlive.dll and the d3d.dll mentioned before in the previous comments made by SUBZERO to get this torrent to work.
warez isnt as easy as it was back in the day, theres too many OS now a days and the rips carry the file that were made somewhat for that system so quit getting frustrated and thinking that torrents dont work. they do you just hafta read the instructions carefully!

i think games like these come with a crack.
these files are usually replaced with the original game extension in the original directory of where the game is installed.
they usually have the same names and when replaced, the game will work.
dunno if this will help cuz i dont have this.

For people who haven't figured it out, to Save the game got to guide (in the Main Menu) and create New Gamer Profile. The DON'T click the Xbox Live Option to Finish it, JUST CLICK DONE. That Way You can now Save.

if any1 get problem:
"there is not enough free disk space" although u have more then enough left on ur hd. it's because u hav FAT32 drives, and cuz of its limitations u cant dl over 4GB files.
to convert the drive to NTFS, do the following steps:
click start > run > type: cmd > hit enter > type: convert X: /FS:NTFS, X being the drive's letter you want to convert, for example:
convert C: /FS:NTFS

7zip can be used same way like WinRar... and 7Zip compressed files are usually named with "7z" "gamename-7z.001" anywhere in the filename other files like 002 .003 etc. you dont have to bother with, they will be automatically extracted ;)

Well, theres a lot of different crap thats being said out in google. The main fixes are here:
1) Try re-installing (delete all, re unzip) the game and the livegaming.
If that doesnt work:
2) Check that you have Direct X 10. If you don't
then download it from the microsoft website. This requires activated XP/Vista. If you dont have activated, search XP activation in TPB or something. Thats how i activated.
3) (This will probably take ages) Search 'Download D3dx10_35.dll' on google and download it and move it to your livegaming folder. If more file errors come out, keep downloading the files (respectively).

Ok, I read all 8 pages with comments and I couldn't find a fix for my problem so I'll just post it here.
When I come to the part on the first map when you have killed the Seeders and you're looking for alpha my game crashes to desktop. It doesn't say anything about "file not found" or such. It just crashes and I get this "The program has crashed, blah blah send error message yes/no" crap.
Any ideas how to fix it? Before this the game worked perfectly and there's nothing wrong with my drivers. I have xlive_dll and the directX I need.

Just follow the instrucutions, its not a setup, its the game itself. Just unzip and play!.
For all of you who wish you had a better shortcut rather than the blank white window icon, right click the shortcut and select properties. Then click Change Icon.
I recommend finding the Binaries folder and selecting WarGame-G4WLive.exe. That's the actual icon. This is what to do for XP. For Vista, thers probably something similar.

I got it running and it runs very well, except that in the menu the cursor is constantly moving up. 1) Rename 'PC_Gears.of.War -ENG+FULL -.direct.play.-ToeD' to something short (I used 'gow')
2) Rename 'G.o.W (ToeD) ...use 7zip ONLY (extract to...)' also to something short (I again used 'gow')
3) Navigate to in your Gears of War directory
4) Copy/Paste 'COG_Grunt_FragGrenade.upk' in 'COG_Grunt_FragGrenade' folder.

I downloaded this and have tried everything. I don't have a problem with the install or getting the game to run. My problem is when I run it. When the game starts up, it is running at about 1 frame per 5-7 seconds. It is ridiculously slow and choppy and unbearable. I have a gt8800, 2 gigs of ram, quad core @ 2.60. I am running crysis, far cry 2, fallout 3, oblivion, mass effect, and dead space all at max settings, why is this game acting like this? I am also running vista.

Ok help!, ive went through many of the comments page with no one similiar to my problem. I used HJsplit and combined the .001-.003 files, then i extracted ithe gears of war folder to my desktop, then i ran gears of war launcher, had the animation go by, and then write stuff to my registry, then i made a desktop icon, and clicked play, setup my video settings in the menu then clicked new campaign and then it goes to the loader screen, then it freezes, nothing happening on screen except for a frozen loading screen. happens every time, tried -deleting, extracting, same problem.
Im on a quad core 4gb ram, and 8800gt.

@Rick78; If you are still having the 'xlive' error go to the link i've provided below and download/install LIVE Redistributable v1.2. Then play the game like normal.

When I try to run the gears.of.war.launcher.exe Norton deletes a w32.spybot.worm. Can someone tell if its a false positive? If I restore it I'm not gonna fuck my sys up am I. Is it safe to disable norton to do the install and do I have to keep norton disabled to play game or will it be ok to enable norton after install without norton deleting something important to the game? Ok, this is for anyone who has the virus problem when executing (Gears.of.War.Launcher.exe). (DO THIS ONLY IF YOU TRUST THE UPLODER).I went into "Options" in my antivirus (in my case it was Norton). I cliked on "Exclusions". Then clicked "Scans", then clicked "New". In the window that pops up search for the "GOW" folder and select it (where ever you extracted GOW to) then click "OK". I extracted mine to a folder I created on my desktop. I did this twice, once for "Auto-protect scans" and again in the same window for the regular scans. The procedure may be slightly different in your antivirus program but the results are the same. I excluded GOW folder (and everything in it) from any scans. After which GOW launcher worked. (Note, there is a splash screen that comes up and I had to press esc. to get out of it.)
"Updated my video drivers" and installed "Xlive" and the ".dll" file created the "shortcut" and I played the the game right from my desktop through the first chapter with no problems. (This was my first time installing these downloaded games and direct-play, so it was a little frustrating) but everything works like a charm.

you guys do realize that if AVG 8 is giving you a virus waarning in the file it isn't a false positive?
the truth is his story is bullshit, this thing is infected.
norton and avg and nod32 are all identifying a virus in the download. avg does not have a hueristic scanner, it's a straight definition dependant scanner, so his byte block in the header comment triggering a hueristic scanner to register it as a false positive is b.s.
it needs to have an exact signature match to trigger a virus warning in avg. granted sometimes avg has false positives due to a mistaken signature but this isn't one of those times cause everyone else in the virus scanning business is registering a virus in this file. so it isn't a case of one company accidentally providing a flase positive definition in their scanners.
simple thing though if you want this game badly put it on a machine you don't care about having to wipe the drive afterwards.

Dont give up m8 make sure the extracted files have been moved from your download directory to c:program files and that your directx is up to date try that and see if u still have the same probs and one more thing make sure u extract 001 only and u use 7zip u can get it here

then i click on Gears.of.War.Launcher.exe then i hit esc
then i click on MakeDesktopIcon.exe

FFS! people! quit tripping on the false positive's in AVG!! Launcher.exe or whatever will always pop up with allot of torrents...my suggestion..axe AVG and just use MalwareBytes..it'll detect any and all viruses that are a legitimate threat! Even some nasty ones that AVG will not. If this program does not detect a Trojan then there are none..so there!!
...oh and please stop complaining about these and all game torrents possibly not working..these people put effort into providing these..crap! we're getting these games for free..duh!

ok, in E:\Gears of War\Binaries the startup.exe is modified and is what the desktop icon points to the startup.exe.bak is the original and if renanmed and launched it will come up with a message saying to insert cdrom..so obviously the modified .exe is to get around that..hmmm..wonder if there is an updated one out there somewhere....stay tuned.

@ Everyone getting the executable cannot run with the modified error. It means the game has expired check it out on the gears of war forum. But the most guaranteed fix for now is change the date of your PC anytime before 27th January. You will probably get the run the Startup.exe message so, I suggest if you still have the rar file delete everything from the registry and delete the gears of war folder itself and do a clean extraction and do the gears-sart thing and play. This worked for most people and worked for me after I did a clean extraction. The error discussing URL is:

found this on the forum, and seems to be the issue as I never checked that box before until recently and that is when I got the error..interesting.

When you click the Gears of War shortcut for the first time a box pops up. There are two tick boxes. If you click the one on the left which says "only show this when there is an update" I get the "Modified executable code please reinstall the game" error. I had never ticked this box before until the other day, before this I was playing the game fine. So what I did I went on to the DVD got the WarGame-G4WLive.exe copied and replaced it with the one on my pc, that fixed the problem.
This issue I can reproduce on my other PC's too, and the fix is the same replace the broken exe, with a copied version off the DVD.

I've followed the instructions step by step and done EVERYTHING right (according to the instructions) Tried XLive and Xlive Redist, 1.2 and 2.0 together and separate, no sucess. Used launcher, used desktop icon, even tried the DirectX .dll files in both Live folder and in GOW folders(binaries) without sucess. uuuhh..I think you should read these comments with some detail, SNW_123...its a certificate issue in wargame-g4wlive.exe that has expired on 1/28/09.
Just set your system time to 1/27/09 or before and the game will launch..thats it dude, no need to do anything else until an official patch is released.
oh and who cares if we cant play onine with this..go buy the game or quit complaining...I'm thrilled to be able to play the campaign..game fucking rocks

ok this is what i did to download. After you double click the Gears. of. War. Launcher. exe and desktop icon. exe you put all of the files in a folder. What happened to me was that when i double clicked the setup in extras-startuporginal. it didnt download completely but left a folder with nothing in it so i dragged the gears of war folder into it and wallah. I got it!! :D

For the step with the setup in the extras folder, it did download completely but by only dragging the file that was needed into the folder it was using. An error should pop up during the process and you'll see what file and which folder to put it in. The file you need is the setup.bak which is in the same folder as the start up original. Then you do the steps I said in my last comment. Hope that helps :D

I tried everything stated, but couldn't get it too work. Always kept giving me a xlive error, even though i had it where everyone said to put it, plus had the d3dx9_35, and tried the set the clock back thing. nothing. Maybe it's a hit or miss torrent... I don't think I ever had this much trouble trying to get a torrent to work, besides the razor1911 Gen, with no luck for both. Cheers to all who gets this to work for them.

plzz try tis when their is an error occurs .....The issue seems to be caused by an expired certificate and can seemingly/temporarily be worked around by setting your PC clock back to a date prior to 1/28/2009..

Meh, after going through what everyone said and finally getting this to work, I wasn't too impressed by the game itself. GREAT graphics and mechanics, but just didn't dig the gameplay.

uuuhh..I think you should read these comments with some detail, SNW_123...its a certificate issue in wargame-g4wlive.exe that has expired on 1/28/09.
Just set your system time to 1/27/09 or before and the game will launch..thats it dude, no need to do anything else until an official patch is released.

It was the first direct play game I ever tried, so I'm probably doing something wrong or missing something.

You need to install Xlive to save your game. I just got it off another "games for windows" disk. Also if you are having trouble running the game setting your system date back a few years should work. I could post Xlive if you need.

One, thanks for the upload it works reasonably well until about an hour in and I get some sort of crash.
Two, for people with the wargame-g4wlive.exe: You cannot run the game with modified executable code problem, one of the things I did were to set the windows clock to January, 16 2007 (apparently setting a date to around this time/year helps). Thanks to the advice of another commenter.

I found this patch that supposedly fixes the "Binaries\wargame-g4wlive.exe: You cannot run the game with modified executable code. Please reinstall the game." problem but I can't install it.
I run the patch and a window opens saying it is extracting the files or whatever but then nothing happens and I still have the problem. As this isn't a legit copy of the game, is this normal? And btw, can I install other update patches or will they make the game not run? (Sorry if they're dumb questions xD )
PS: I was going to write the link where you could download the patch but TPB gives me the "database error" so I guess I can't post it here.

Sorry for the caps but no one has yet figured out how to uninstall this thing.
There may have been an .exe for it but I deleted my game files when I couldn't get it to work assuming that since there was no installer, there would be no need to UNINSTALL either.
Apparantly this is not the case, so how do I uninstall this game?? Its sitting in my Add/Remove programs telling me I don't have sufficient priveleges to uninstall it.

Works fine. Sometimes it will be choppy or pause for a second which is annoying but that's my machine being lazy. Didn't get a virus detect threat. Running Windows 7 w/Radeon 4670. Had the issue in the beginning where it told me I couldn't run modified code, just changed the system clock like the other guy said and it actually worked. Weird. I guess it's a GFWL timer thing that causes it. Thanks SubZero!

Most of you have no business downloading a game if you can't figure out simple instructions. The firewalluninstall file error on uninstall can be solved by just navigating to the file in the game folder and deleting it. as far as the gameplay, i play this game on a P4 3.0 extreme 2GB corsair dual channel ram, and an ATI radeon HD 3850 and it plays smooth as silk. pm me if you need help. i have been round and round with this game and know most of the fixes. Ok I'm completely clue less as to what to do here. I followed the instructions on the read me file in da torrent. I unrar(ed) it aka the first GoW.7z.001 and then double clicked the launcher. I let it go for a while till it said on the launcher press esc to exit. I did that as i did with other ToeD(Thank you BTW) games i download. soon as the mirror disappears a registry editor error or w.e screen pops up saying

the start.exe error happens because you aint set your pc clock date back a year....
it is a bit of a twat to do everytime u wanna play the game but just be sure to put the date back to present day after playing, because some updates for other programs wont work...i.e i could not log into MSN untill i set the date back to normal

I instaled it 3 times, because I did´nt have the necessary help, but now I could play it and it´s one of the best games I ever played.
I did the folwing:
1. extracted it with 7zip;
2.run the "Gears of war lancher" and the "makeDesktopIcon";
3. instaled the toed´s update;
4. put the date of my computer to .../.../2008.

I got it to work but I can't save because I can't login. I have an account on Xlive but It asks me for the product key when I try to sign in. I turned back my clock to January 2008 and the game works just how it is, no update, but now saving. When I use the 40mb update, I get a runtime error and an xlive error.
Would the older 20mb update possibly help? Or is it something else? I have .Net framework updated to 3.5 SP1. And Xlive is updated. I don't know what else to do.

So heres what:
I DL this torrent, was able to finish the DL.
Followed the instruction:
1.DL 7zip
2.unrar with 7zip
3.double click on Gears.of.War.Launcher.exe (watch the whole thing till it start all over again, pressd ESC)
4.double click - makedesktopicon.exe....
"now here comes the problem" when i double click it, it says, "Missing Shortcut" Windows is searching for "Startup.exe"

If you're getting a modified exe error, u need to use this patch:

This patch will resolve all GFWL issues. Alternatively you could set your date backwards but i find that highly inconvenient. Anyhow, once patched, you'll still need a v1.2 crack from gamecopyworld to run it. Else your screen will crash at the GameXStudios screen. Good luck.
Now, ten minutes into the game, i'm running into a relentless stream of Visual C++ crashes. I'm using a Core2Duo clocked at 1.8GHz. Could that be causing a crash? I have 2 GB DDR2 RAM and a 512 MB HD4850. I'm running the game at 1280x1024. I kind of maxed out all settings. Game runs smooth for as long as it runs. 15-20 mins later at one point in Act I it crashes.

I finally got this game working and I was getting the stupid "d3dx10_35.dll is missing" error message.
You need to uninstall/delete GoW game and start again from fresh.
You MUST have 7-ZIP installed on your computer.
1) Right click on GoW.7z.001 and go to 7-Zip>Extract files...and click OK.
2) Once the GoW files have been extracted, Move the GoW folder to c:/programfiles
2) Now open folders GoW>Gears of War and double click "Gears.of.War.Launcher". If you get display issues, use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to close the program using Task Manager. Open launcher again, but this time Uncheck the "windowed" box and click start, You should see "one eyed dude" with some funny music playing in the background, just wait till it says "press Esc" if that doesnt work, use Task Manager to close again.
3) Now double click "makeDesktopIcon"
4) Go to the "Binaries" folder and double click the "Startup" application.
5) you should now see a window with the GoW game, make sure that "yes i will participate" is NOT selected, then click "PLAY"
6) you should now get an Error with somthing like "d3dx10_35.dll is missing or some shit.
7) go to "google" and search for and download "d3dx10_35.dll" and "d3dx9_35.dll" and also "xlive.dll"

Make sure your DirectX is up to date, and make sure you have those very important .dll files installed in your gow/binaries and windows/system32 folders, and also make sure you change your time to 2008. 4) double click "make desktop icon"
5) download "d3dx10_35.dll" and "d3dx9_35.dll" and also "xlive.dll"and copy and paste thes files into your gow/binaries folder, and also to your windows/system32 folder.
6) now go to your "clock" which should be at the bottom right (win7) and change your date and time settings to "1st of january 2008" for some reason changing the date to 2008 fixes alot of issues probly cause this game was ripped in 08 not 11.
7) now go to binaries folder and double click, "startup" application.

I have been able to play the story mode without any dramas, except that i was having some screen flickering which is now fixed by changing my resolution to a better fit and turning on vsync in the video options! To SAVE a game, you should go to guide and create a game name, if your not gonna play online, you should just make a LAN game name, instead of creating a ONLINE name..a LAN name is just for playing story mode or Local, hope this helps..

You should just leave your computer running when you go to bed, because ive found that you get faster speeds when people in your area have gone to bed, like 12AM-5AM, then when you wake up, it will atleast be half way done...thats what i do

I have also found a problem with screen tearing in the game, There is an option in the game called "Vsync" that is sopose to fix this, But because this is a GoW bug, vsync must be forced manually. If you ARE getting screen tearing issues like i was just download a program called "Rivatuner" and after you install it, go to its folders and find the folder called "tools" and run a program called "D3DOverrider". This program needs to be running while you are playing GoW. Hope this helps

@aquaBlue You will be unable to play on Windows LIVE as you do not "Officially own" a copy of this game.
You will still be able to save if you create an offline profile.
Press the Home key and if you are signed in, sign out. Select "Create a new account" and scroll down a bit until you reach "create and offline profile" (it's a Link, not a button) just enter a name there and you will be able to save. this also works with other titles that otherwise would need a key to work if you signed in with an online profile.

You can still earn achievements on pirated Windows Live games. You can play offline, using your official profile, and still get the points for it; most of the time. This game is an exception, however, there are dozens of other games that you can still get points for, even if they are pirated. You cannot earn achievement points for this game while offline. Plus, turning the clock back disables profile compatability anyway. The achievement system for this game is awful anyway; easily one of the worst achievement games on record. -- make sure you have the latest DX 9.0c June 2010 if you dont have then download it from microsoft...
-- Then coming to xlive shit, download it as well, its an application, install it...(google it)
-- Now coming to the installation part, download 7zip(google it and download it) and extract the files of the game with this software... and place it in a folder of your choice
-- Then open the launcher icon
-- Then open the makedesktopicon icon and run the game from the desktop, if everything went well just consider yourself lucky
ISSUES...
I am going to list the issues i encountered
-- First of all when i was trying to run the game from the desktop it was saying "you cannot run the game with the modified executable code"...
no solutions for this may be the uploader can throw some light on this as there are 33 pages of comments and reading each and every comment page is one hell of a shit...
A small request to the uploader please update the info of the torrent and iclude the basic solutions of some common problems..
Another thing i would like to mention is that the problems which i am listing are not encountered with this release...
-- Another issue my friend was having that he was not able to make a windows LIVE profile(offline one), in the game it says press F1 to make a profile or something but nothing happens..
So solution for this--
Is either you try installing windows LIVE application which you can download from Microsoft or you can install any other game which uses Windows live profile for eg: RE5, Batman: Arkham Asylum and then make a LIVE profile from these games once you are done with making a profile you are good to go... run GoW and then it will automatically sign you in and voila
-- Another issue was that, although the game was running fine but as soon as i crank up the video settings and then kapoot the game crashes...
solution for this as far as i can just dont switch on the AA settings probably this was the cause but i am not sure...
And one user has highlighted this problem of crashing on page no. 5 but i havent tested what he is trying to say...

The Pre-Alpha Team GOW crash fix.
1) Rename 'PC_Gears.of.War -ENG+FULL -.direct.play.-ToeD' to something short (I used 'gow')
2) Rename 'G.o.W (ToeD) ...use 7zip ONLY (extract to...)' also to something short (I again used 'gow')
3) Navigate to in your Gears of War directory
4) Copy/Paste 'COG_Grunt_FragGrenade.upk' in 'COG_Grunt_FragGrenade' folder.
5) Finally get past that corridor ;)
COG_Grunt_FragGrenade.upk is already there in that folder... Copy/Paste it where?? please explain!

i don't think this torrent has any problems although i think you'll have fewer problems when you buy the actual disc. this game is probably just hard to crack and I think the company behind gears of war just made it this way so pirating this game is harder! 1. Download and unzip the whole thing.
2. Start Gears.of.War.Laucher, after that the MakeDesktopIcon.exe (this is not necessary, you can create a shortcut manually later).
3. Download this:
4. There is a folder named "_extras" which contains the original Startup.exe, copy that to Binares folder, overwriting the cracked one.
5. DO NOT run the Microsoft patch, instead of that, UNPACK it.
6. You will see a file named "update.exe", run it. It will misses the registry keys, but never mind, that's not necessary for the game.
7. If the update is complete, go to "_extras" copy the cracked "startup.exe", and if you did everything correctly it should start the game.

4.ONCE YOU HAVE RAN THE STARTUP_SETUP.EXE, IT WILL ASK A LOCATION WHERE IT CAN EXTRACT THE ORIGINAL "STARTUP.EXE"----EXTRACT ANYWHERE YOU WANT JUST REMEMBER THE LOCATION!!!
5. NOW COPY THAT STARTUP.EXE YOU JUST EXTRACTED TO YOUR INSTALLFOLDERBINARIES
6. NOW RUN THE OFFICIAL PATCH 2 WHICH YOU DOWNLOADED IN STEP 2
7. ONCE PATCHING IS DONE, DOWNLOAD THE FOLLOWING CRACK AND COPY & PASTE TO YOUR INSTALLFOLDERBINARIES FOLDER:

1. did all the unpacking with 7-zip and double clicked the icons that ToeD said
2. change pc date to 2008
3. run game, and in the main menu press F1 and click create new profile, scroll down and click create local profile
4. kill some locust.

Found this game off of EBAY. I have the whole campaign complete with achievs. Is it possible for others to use my save to get achievs? Or no? I'm just missing the online bullshit, the game is hella glitchy, as bad as, King Kong was for xbox360!!!
