BramBarb, make sure you are using a retail edition for retail and then try activating by phone, the vl keys are kms and need a kms server (or activator) to activate them.

The Activation is permanent with this Key except VL Key!!

It says invalid because you're trying to put that Key in a retail version of Office 2010,The MAK Key works only wih VL version of Office,So Better convert the installer into a VL instead of Retail,Use this tool to do that.

Then use the MAK Key to activate Permanently.

My question is about the Windows Update thing. I know sometimes these things get screwed up when you bother with the updates from windows, so is it okay to install the updates I get for the Office 2010 package?
