Die nacht loopt een dierensmokkel gruwelijk uit de hand en ontsnapt er een groot zeedier de afgelegen riviertjes in. Bij het restaurant van McDaniel wordt de lokale dronkenlap Jackson doodgebeten teruggevonden. De sheriff beschuldigt de ontsnapte alligators van McDaniel ervan en probeert hem in de gevangenis te krijgen. Rachel McDaniel, het hoofd van de familie, beweert echter dat zij de vin van een haai boven het water heeft zien uitkomen. Samen met de hulp van haar familie en de mysterieuze vreemdeling Charlie besluit ze het wezen een bezoekje te brengen om de naam van haar familie te zuiveren en het 'Gator Fest' toch te kunnen laten doorgaan. The town sheriff blames the carnage on the McDaniel's "escaped" pack of gators and tries hauling them off to jail. Rachel McDaniel, head of the family, claims to have seen the fin of a shark! Rachel and her family, along with the help of a mysterious stranger, Charlie, take on the Swampshark and the law to clear their names, save Rachel's kid sister Krystal and prevent the unwitting folks at the upcoming Gator Fest from being torn to shreds by a beast the likes of which no one has ever seen!
