Just downloaded this game and works perfectly. I'm running it on Windows Vista Ultimate with with Centrino Duo processor and 2gig of ram on my laptop.
A good program to use i found was poweriso, just google the software download and install. Mount the cd's as requested when installing and to play the game use cd1 on mount.
I have found that the game crashes when you die though, but a way to resolve this is to right click on the game icon and go to compatibility.
The options i have chosen are: run in windows xp sp2, and run in 640x480 resolution.
After doin this, i have found no problem even if you die it just goes to the normal continue or exit screen.

It worked for me, and I had the same problem.

Solutions to some common problems here:
-Before the installation, be sure your downloaded folder(s) of Metal Gear Solid are in your C: drive. You'll get an error during setup if you don't do so.
-When booting up the game "Please insert disk", make sure you have inserted the cracks. Go over the readme in the no-cd patch folder for better explanation.
-When selecting a difficulty it asks for a disk, make sure you have you MGSDISK1 mounted in daemon tools or whatever software you use. There may be another way, but this way does work.
I'm not sure why the game crashes when you die, i guess it's just trying to make it more realistic :P

-If your game crashes when you die, try changing the game compatibility to Windows 95. To do so, right click on your MGS shortcut, properties, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 95. I haven't had a crash since.

Hey I installed the game great and everything, but when I start a new game I have 999 ammo and no controls whatsoever.. I guess the ammo could be part of the torrent (*sigh, cheats...*) but even when I try to add controls through options, it doesnt pick up any of my keys other than esc. and backspace... Help plz

I have done what is said in the description, but when I run the game in daemon tools the screen becomes black and it says: Out of range 17.4kHz/69Hz. I hear the voices and the sound in the background but I can`t get the visuals.

wut i did was turned off the screen and turned it back on.
sumtimes it works, and some it didnt.

Everytime it's supposed to come a cutscene it just skips it i don't know why and when they are supposed to talk in the codec i have to press space all the time :( any suggestions what i should do?

what about when fighting against mantis? if in PS you have to switch from controller port 1 to controller port 2 to win. do you have anything special to do here to win against mantis?
