Truman is a 1995 HBO movie starring Gary Sinise as Harry S. Truman. The film is based on the 1993 Pulitzer Prize winning book Truman, by David McCullough, who also won the Prize in 2001 for John Adams, which was made into an HBO Miniseries. The film centers on Truman's rise to the presidency from humble beginnings, World War II, and his decision to use the first atomic bomb. The film's tagline is "It took a farmer's hand to shape a nation."
Harry S. Truman is consistently ranked among the best U.S. Presidents by historians. The synopsis that follows is from wikipedia:
Harry S. Truman (May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972) was the thirty-third President of the United States (1945–1953). As vice president, he succeeded Franklin D. Roosevelt, who died less than three months after he began his fourth term.
During World War I Truman served as an artillery officer. After the war he became part of the political machine of Tom Pendergast and was elected a county judge in Missouri and eventually a United States Senator. After he gained national prominence as head of the wartime Truman Committee, Truman replaced vice president Henry A. Wallace as Roosevelt's running mate in 1944.
As president, Truman faced challenge after challenge in domestic affairs. The disorderly reconversion of the economy of the United States was marked by severe shortages, numerous strikes, and the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act over his veto. He confounded all predictions to win re-election in 1948, largely due to his famous Whistle Stop Tour of rural America. After his re-election he was able to pass only one of the proposals in his Fair Deal program. He used executive orders to begin desegregation of the U.S. armed forces and to launch a system of loyalty checks to remove thousands of communist sympathizers from government office, even though he strongly opposed mandatory loyalty oaths for governmental employees, a stance that led to charges that his administration was soft on communism. Truman's presidency was also eventful in foreign affairs, with the end of World War II and his decision to use nuclear weapons against Japan, the founding of the United Nations, the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe, the Truman Doctrine to contain communism, the beginning of the Cold War, the creation of NATO, and the Korean War. Corruption in Truman's administration reached the cabinet and senior White House staff. Republicans made corruption a central issue in the 1952 campaign.
Truman, whose demeanor was very different from that of the patrician Roosevelt, was a folksy, unassuming president. He popularized such phrases as "The buck stops here" and "If you can't stand the heat, you better get out of the kitchen."[1] He overcame the low expectations of many political observers who compared him unfavorably with his highly regarded predecessor. At one point in his second term, near the end of the Korean War, Truman's public opinion ratings reached the lowest point yet recorded for any United States president until George W. Bush. Despite negative public opinion during his term in office, popular and scholarly assessments of his presidency became more positive after his retirement from politics and the publication of his memoirs. U.S. scholars today rank him among the top ten best presidents. Truman's legendary upset victory in 1948 over Thomas E. Dewey is routinely invoked by underdog presidential candidates.

What, you didn't like Oh! Calcutta?nikko1 (2008-09-12)
it was childish. only the jack and jill bit had anything going for it; very powerful. but i despise watching rape scenes, so even that.........hey, but i dont mean to sound like a thankless wretch, you are one of the very few quality uploaders.
nikko1 (2008-09-12)
though it does reflect how hipness can come and go. eg, while the music is great - can one really take 'Hair' seriously?by the way - is there any video record of the broadway Othello w James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer from the late 70's early 80's? (i dont remember the exact year)
now THAT would be awesome. and timeless.
rambam1776 (2008-09-12)
That scene is hard to take. I don't much care for the play myself, especially that scene, but you can see where they were going with it - the sexual repression of the time, etc.I don't think the Othello thing is available. I've tried to make it a point to upload every live theater peice I can find, and there are very few of them available. I can't believe there isn't a bigger market for them. Have you tried the other live on Broadway stuff I've upped? "The Man Who Came To Dinner" is one of the funniest things in the world.

"The Man Who Came To Dinner" seemed way too forced to me. and that was a shame as i was looking forward to it.but i seem to remember you putting up the holbroook 'twain', yes? i saw him do that in the 80's, so it was real nice to get a copy.
