1st film is pretty old school so quality is about what you would expect but its super B grade anyway so it fits with the mood of the film.
The remake is sound! Bruce Cambel and Sam Raimi produced it so it was done right. I enjoyed it a lot and now have to watch the entire trilogy back to back to satiate my Evil Dead needs.

I donloaded this (first movie) and this one
And not sure which is worse but I'm gonna talk of this one here and the other in it's place:
1st thing I notice (apart from not talking about the specs) is the lack of noise in this one, that means filtering and lack of detail (Example comparing the beggining, in the other you can see mist/vapor/steam/smoke and film noise, in this one, almost plain greyish colour and you can't tell what it is supposed to be, as all detail is almost gone).
2nd the colour is like the dvd release.
3rd it's 16:9 not deformed, when the movie is actually 1.85: This means this is cropped!!!
4th Sound is better in this one: more volume, deepest and maybe more detail.
As I do not know about the details of the BR and the DVD versions don't know if the encoder did anything else than just encode. And in this one the "BRRip" title is suspicious.
My conclusions: both releases are highly unsatisfactory.
