This movie is terrible. Not even close to the book and skips around so much. Leaves every detail out. You can't even follow the plot.

Crosses the line between ٩ξ(～‿～)۶ meditating and ＿ﾉ乙(､ﾝ､)_zzz. Deification of buddha; stilted dialogue; formalistic, histrionic acting... It's as if the script was written by a German... wait a minute - it was!
Sven Nykvist's cinematography is great. It really should be watched in 1080p Bluray.

Well there you have it from two views.
Of course it is not anything like Hesse's book.
The Director Conrad Rook made it in his own style.
And it is beautiful to watch with more deep meaning than Hesse was capable of in his book.
Hesse as any western born person is incapable of understanding India's true heritage.
