I get the first screen with MAFIA written on it then... boom, program crashes and I am back to Finder.

TO CHANGE RESOLUTION:
Make a backup of ~/Library/Preferences/Mafia/system.reg
Open system.reg
Go to key [Software\\Illusion Softworks\\Mafia]
Look for
0400 is 1024, 0300 is 768 in hex.
To set to 1440x900, do:

1440 = 05A0 and 900 = 0384 in hex.
Note that the 2nd portion of the hex number is the *preceding* pair of digits in the key. To choose a resolution other than 1440x900, calculate the hex equivalent, and insert into those locations.

I tried what tazx said about changing the resolution but it didn't work. says generic- error something and the game won't start. Also, sometimes I get the cool shadow effect and sometimes I don't. Hi there... I did some research and found this - this port works only with "normal" graphic cards - but doesn't work with the Intel integrated graphic cards - so sorry, no MacBooks and no Mac minis...
However - I need some help. I am totally able to play this game on windows (via Boot Camp) It works perfectly - even with high details. So how come I can't make it work on Mac OS X? What the hell is this supposed to mean?!?

To those having problems you must determine your screens resolution by going to System Preferences and selecting Displays. Once you have determined your screens resolution you must convert that to Hex. Use the OSX calculator and follow tazx instructions.

You use the OSX calculator. To do that go to view & select Programmer or Command 3.
Enter the values as Decimal and click on the Hex button to convert.

anyone have any luck getting a joystick or gamepad set up? i can get response from the gamepad buttons, but nothing from any of the axes. i ran jstest (using a linux box) on my gamepad, and i used those results in the cider/wine config file, which has worked great for me with other cider ports, but for some reason, not this one.
is anyone getting an analog joystick to work? it is kind of crucial for steering in this game...
