Description:

"Quite simply the most insightful interpretation of Vietnam ever to appear anywhere. No other book touches such vital issues; no other hook explains so much; no other hook is as impotent." -Leonard Bushkov, Asian Wall Street Journal Weekly "Discloses what the American military and political leadership largely misunderstood: the nature of Vietnamese society, the confrontation with colonialism and Western values, the resistance of the intellectuals, and the culture of the people." -Herbert Mitgang, New York Times "Neil L.Jamieson is one of the rare Americans who understand Vietnam, its people and culture. A lot of the mistakes committed during the (raged) of the war in Vietnam could have been avoided if we'd had more Jamiesons on the American side " -Bui Diem, former South Vietnamese ambassador to the United States "Jamieson ranges over the entire sweep of Vietnamese political culture, using as his window of observation the past century's Vietnamese literary output. There is nothing quite like this in print.....Would serve admirably as a text” -Indochina Chronology "This is a valuable book that should be on the bookshelf of every Vietnamese family, especially in this time of confusion between brass and gold" -Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Vietnam Culture Newsletter Neil L.Jamieson is one of the staff of the Winrock International Institute for Agriculture Development and is a Senior of the Indochina Institute at George Mason University. I bought this book in Vietnam. I regretted I didn?t buy it before my trip. The book explains many important things. Understanding them you will be able to speak with Vietnamese more confidently. Sorry if quality of scanning doesn?t suit you, I did all I could. And one more point: I have closed port, so we need a man with opened port to seed. Be patient. I?ll be standing on seeding long enough.
