DigitalDust, sorry, it's just the bitrate at which I collect music. I have done experiments trying to distinguish between 128 kbps and 160 or 192 kbps with headphones on my iaudio 7 portable mp3 player and although you do hear a difference, I find it rather subtle and 128 kbps sounds good enough to me.

disagreed. it's probably not your ears, it's your equipment.
i keep my computer hooked up to my stereo and even with a modest setup like mine i can hear the difference between a 128 and 192. with earbuds... probably not. anyway personally i don't have the $$ to spend on shure.
i started collecting at 128, then moved to 160, then 192, then 256. space is so cheap now that it's not worth kicking yourself later. and you'll thank yourself later when you play it through a good set of speakers.
