Description:

Forensic and Anatomic Dissections of the Human Eye by Professor Anil Aggrawal, MAMC, New Delhi, India Medico legal Dissection of the Human Eye is rarely done routinely. The reasons are that the medical officers are generally reluctant to disfigure the dead person. However it is better to do the dissection of eyeball and then reconstruct the eye, by inserting an artificial orbit, than not doing the dissection at all. In this rare dissection, Professor Anil Aggrawal, Professor of Forensic Medicine at the Maulana Azad Medical College, demonstrates how to examine the eye. It is important in cases of asphyxial deaths, where hemorrhages are seen on the conjunctiva. It is important in the estimation of age, where we see arcus senilis and opacity of lens. Time since death can be determined by potassium concentration of vitreous humor. Toxicology of the vitreous is important in many cases, especially in alcohol, road side vehicular accidents etc. Finally vitreous hemorrhages are seen in battered baby syndrome and shaken baby syndrome. In this short movie, Professor Anil Aggrawal, demonstrates how medico legal dissection of the orbit is done, and how the orbit is examined for all the above parameters. A rare movie, which would be mostly loved by forensic pathologists and perhaps morbid anatomists.
