Loosely based on Lionel White's novel 'Obsession', Godard uses the story (a man fed up with his materialistic life runs off with his child's babysitter and chaos ensues) as a framework to incorporate many elements of his personal philosophies, as well as ideas and techniques already introduced in previous films.
