Il film è ispirato dal libro La Guerra Rivoluzionaria a Cuba scritto dallo stesso Ernesto Guevara. Che - L'argentino è la prima di due parti dedicate alla figura di Che Guevara, la seconda Che - Guerriglia è sempre diretta da Soderbergh.
