The song was written by Victoria Hesketh and produced by Greg Kurstin for Little Boot's debut album Hands (2009). It was released as the album's lead single on 25 May 2009 in the United Kingdom. The song was inspired by the nights Little Boots spent in Los Angeles recording the album. "New in Town" debuted on the UK singles chart at number 13. The music video was directed by Jake Nava in April 2009. It was filmed in Los Angeles and features Little Boots and a group of dancers wandering and dancing under a highway overpass. The video begins with Little Boots driving around Los Angeles in the back of a car. She is then shown wandering around under a highway overpass in a blue dress and dancing with a group of homeless people. This is followed by scenes of rival gangs dancing and young couples making out in their cars. Hands is the debut album by English electropop singer Little Boots. It was released by Sixsevenine on 8 June 2009 in the United Kingdom to generally positive reviews. Many critics complimented its "well-crafted" pop songs and "diverse" production. Hands primarily features songs about love, relationships and heartbreak, and takes influence from a variety of music styles such as disco, 1980s pop, and eurodance. The album reached the top five in Little Boots' native United Kingdom, and its lead single "New in Town" was a top twenty single. Victoria Hesketh (Born 4 May 1984), better known by her stage name Little Boots, is a British electropop musician. She began her music career by appearing on the ITV Talent competition Pop Idol at the age of sixteen, afterwards going on tour in Europe with a jazz trio and later becoming the lead singer for the dance-pop band Dead Disco before eventually embarking on a sole career. Taking her stage name from the film Caligula (meaning Little Boots in Latin), from which she was nicknamed by a friend, she has become linked to a wave of recent breakthrough female artists in their 20’s including Lady Gaga, Ladyhawke and Florence and the Machine, in particular her win in BBC Sound of Music 2009 poll and a BRIT critics choice award nomination have brought her mainstream media attention. Her debut album, Hands, released on the 8th of June 2009, peaked at #5 in the UK album charts and to date has produced her highest charting single New in Town.
