SOLUTION:
1. Install it.
2. Go to the game folder.
3. There is a file called ToEng.bat. Run it. Voilà. The game is now in English. You should probably be able to patch it too now.

There is no sound after install!
This is solution:
Open up conf.ini (it's in the game's folder) using Notepad, scroll a bit down to the [Sound] section, and change it to this:
SoundUse=1

Nice upload, much thanks! ToEng.bat worked perfectly and it runs smooth and stable (well, it gets a little rough when Flak rips my Stukas tail off). :^P
This is a damn good sim btw. I'm ordering 2 copies from amazon right now (it's only $9.15 each) to support the developer. Thanks for letting me check it out first!

Install the game
go to the location where you installed and right click click on the ToEng file and run as administrator.
run the game again, it should be in english
if it still isnt in english then do the following:
check the directory where the game is installed (something like C:\Program Files\IL-2 Sturmovik - 1946)
right click on the ToEng file and then edit
copy the contents of the file
open a new notepad document (run as administrator)
paste the contents into this file
in front of the contents make a new line
into this line you type:
CD (directory of the game)
so for me it is:
CD C:\Program Files\IL-2 Sturmovik - 1946
now save the file as ToEng.bat (all files not text file) say yes to overwrite file
now once again run (the now edited) ToEng file as administrator
the game should be in english.

it's one big .nrg file... I extract it with 7zip... There is no installation option. I've looked at every executable. How did all of these people install this?
