Is this software for making your own *search engine* to add to your website ?, I keep uninstalling it never seen nobody taking about it ?

TekWiz (2008-05-19)

NO!!! Read the description: "OCR" Optical Character Recognition. That has nothing to do with a web search engine! It means the computer can READ SCANNED IMAGES OF TEXT and CONVERT THEM to EDITABLE TEXT. It's one of the most significant achievements or the computer revolution--for a computer to be able to recognize shapes...

sp1976 (2008-05-20)

Does this actually work?

tops.c (2008-05-20)

Easy TekWiz, does it have a practical use for the common user, I could check into it I'm just so busy, I havt to miss out on good software info.

Wait you said "It means the computer can READ SCANNED IMAGES OF TEXT and CONVERT THEM to EDITABLE TEXT" so you can print out an encripted pdf file then scan it and duplicate the encripted pdf file ?

TekWiz (2008-05-20)

Hey! :) Well, sp1976, of course it works! It works AMAZINGLY well--these programs are often 99.6% to 100% accurate even when reading difficult fonts and badly scanned pages. The technology has improved greatly over the years...
tops.c, Well sure it has practical uses. For example, say you receive a fax and you need to retype it, this will do it. Or if you have a paper book and you need to be able to search it for information (like if you need to answer questions) you can scan it in, and as you say, if you have an encrypted PDF document and you want to create an open PDF. In fact regarding your question, I noticed ABBYY has a new feature:
Bonus ABBYY Screenshot Reader Utility for Instant OCR
ABBYY Screenshot Reader is an easy-to-use utility that lets you quickly capture screen images and allows you to perform instant OCR from the screen. It is ideal for pulling text, tables, or images from Web browser pages, flash presentations, Windows Explorer file menus, or error messages. Screenshot Reader is also an ideal quick OCR tool when you want to pull small quotes or a few sentences of text from a PDF or image file. ABBYY Screenshot Reader ships with ABBYY FineReader 8.0 Professional Edition as a bonus application for registered users.
So potentially you can take screenshots of the pdf and you don't need to print and re-scan it...
Anyway you can check out all the features here:
http://www.abbyy.com/products/
And as always if you like the program after you try it, buy it!

TekWiz (2008-05-20)

Oh and BTW, check out this site: This page shows OCR accuracy results for ABBYY 8:
http://www.ocrreview.com/2007/08/28/abbyy-finereader-8-professional-initial-results/

Version 9 is supposedly 35% more accurate.
Cool site--shows a lot of comparisons, etc...

tops.c (2008-05-20)

I can't remember but there was a software package that will copy the soure code from any website, encripted pdf file, anything published on the www, then just cut & paste what you want, also theres some software PSP people make ebooks for the torrents, and no scaner required, but Abbyy Finereader I had was version 5 or something took up 100Mb h/d space, well learn something every day, it sound like a Adobe what-a-be, I would like to find that software that will copy any source code, any info on that ?

skeetmann (2008-05-25)

This torrent works perfectly and is virus free. Scanned with CA Antivirus. Is a multi-language install. Choose your languge. Great torrent...thanks HelloWorld69!

TekWiz (2008-05-26)

Well copying source code depends if it's compiled or not... For example copying code from websites is usually possible since you can view the html or php code in your browser. But say, from a program which is an exe (executable) file, you can't get the original source code since it's not there... Also some websites use server-side scripts which generate the html code on the fly, so you can't get those scripts from what you are seeing...
Regarding the adobe pdf book "cracker"... yeah there was some software that could crack protected pdf books but new pdf formats overcome that exploit... But as we can see there are other ways to extract data from whatever you can see on your screen--like ABBYY's ability to use OCR on screen text...

Hi there,
I desperately need help from anyone who could do me a bigggg..gggg favor.
I have downloaded an "ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Pros" from quite a few people here in TPB, they are working great.
However, since I deadly need to have the Thai language supported, which all of the downloads from here couldn't avail my need.
I do a further research on the ABBYY website itself, and found that i need to use the updated version to get Thai language supported.
(Reference :
http://www.abbyy.com/press/press_releases.asp?param=144054)

I then started to download the installation file from ABBYY website, its size is 243 MB.
(Reference downloaded site :
http://finereader.abbyy.com/?param=137544)

BUT after downloading and installing the software, I got a BIG problem about product activation. I try to play around with merging some files from the TPB version with
the downloaded Thai support version, never success.
Anyone could help me out of this please? Would be truly appreciated for your help and mercy.
If anyone would be able to help me, please write me kms2547(at)h0tmail(dot)com.
Best regards,
Karin
