Does this have the nasally Paul Schrader's voice over or the original Roy Scheider?
Scheider's is much better and the director's is terrible to listen to. I don't know why it was changed in the later versions but I'm afraid ego might be the only reason.
It's a completely different feeling film with the change.

And calling Mishima Japan's greatest author is a huge stretch. He may have been one of the most interesting contemporary authors though.

This IS the Paul Schrader narration version. And the video is low quality on such a visual film, there's a criterion torrent up I'm not sure on the quality but this one is bad.
This film deserves a visually pristine rip with the original narration. Eiko Ishioka's costumes and sets make this an incredible film to watch even without the fantastic Philip Glass music on.
An EXCELLENT film to trip to, but listening to Paul Schrader's non emotional nasal voice will make you want to glass someone in the eyes.
