She made her AV debut at age 19 in May 2002 with the video Virgin Love for the Media Station Cosmos Plan label. She is quoted as saying about her debut I became an AV actress because this is not something I can do later in my life, but in another interview she says she got into AV work to financially help her boyfriend who was an AV director. In September 2002, she had a role in director Yutaka Ikejima's pink film Delivery Health Girl - The Moisture of Silken Skin which won the 9th Place Best Film award at the 2002 Pink Grand Prix ceremony. After a few more videos with the Cosmos Plan and h.m.p. studios in 2002 and 2003, Matsushima retired but returned to the AV industry and began her long association with the Alice Japan company in December 2003 in Sexy Butt. Matsushima remained with Alice Japan for nearly four years making about one original video per month before releasing her retirement work Kaede Matsuhima's Official Retiring Performance - Smile, Last Message in November 2007. After a year away from the AV industry, Matsushima announced her return in her August 2008 blog and her first work with her new studio S1, Sell Debut Risky Mosaic, was released in October 2008. After a dozen videos with S1, in November 2009 she began making videos with a new company, IdeaPocket. Most of her work is censored.
