Actually, the nature of binaural beats doesn't require flac/lossless because of the simplicity of the tones that are recorded. The beats are caused by the brain hearing 2 or more simple tones that are slightly different in each ear. Although I would prefer a clean 256 to 320 kbps recording, I'm sure that as long as you kept good channel separations, a basic 128kpbs recording would work as well as lossless and save us all a bunch of time and bandwidth. When I started getting into these recordings recently, I couldn't imagine why they were being posted as flac files. Maybe I'll post my collection at a lower bitrate with my explanation for those of us who just can't wait to try the next BB file they find.

how compressed are these audio files? because mp3 technology does wave and frequency approximation. mp3 is not lossless. for audio that depends on specific waveforms, i would imagine that converting the cd audio to mp3 would sound correct like an approximation would sound correct but would not work as intended. it'd be like 1.8 is pretty close to 2, but it's different enough to be different.
for this "audio technology" to work, it would seem you would need to have uncompressed WAV audio or some lossless format. even if you set a very high bitrate, it doesn't matter. mp3 technology will change the audio. in fact, I would think FLAC would change the audio because although it is lossless, there is still audio processing.
