Release Notes:
--------
There are many influences, which give this Texas Country/Americana band its
unique sound. They blend traditional country, blues, and rock together with
perfection. With their high-energy solos, rocking backbeats, and cleverly
crafted lyrics, The Mo Robson Band is sure to get an audience on its feet. The
Mo Robson Band has been playing around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex since
1998. From private parties and weddings, to smokey bars, they have been hard at
work. In April of 2000, they finished their four song demo CD. This is only a
prelude to their upcoming first release due out in the beginning of 2001, on
Pinche Gringo Records. Although new to the public eye in a sense, it has
actually been eleven years in the making of The Mo Robson Band. Back in their
high school days Mo Robson (Vocals/Acoustic Guitar) and Jake Jackson
(Electric/Lead Guitar) began jamming together whenever and wherever they were
allowed. Robson had grown up listening to Johnny cash, Willie Nelson, and Merle
Haggard courtesy of his dad. Jackson had been raised on Bob Dylan and the Who.
Back then however, they both had dreams of being the next Led Zeppelin. After
graduation they parted ways and followed their own paths. Four years later,
Robson and Jackson reunited. For the past four years Robson had spent time at
various universities around Texas, and was even the drummer in a
punk/alternative rock band while attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock,
Texas. Jackson had working and taking classes in Dallas. During his days at
Texas Tech, Robson was turned on to the sounds of Robert Earl Keen. This changed
his whole outlook on music, as well as his direction. He quit the band, as well
as school, and moved home to find a job and learn guitar. One month later,
Robson and Jackson were back at it again. They both took jobs laying hardwood
floors for a long time friend of theirs. Long hours of work during the day did
not discourage the long hours of practice at night. It was Jackson's patience
and encouragement that helped get Robson's skills to blossom. After a year of
practice however, Robson decided to move to Salt Lake City, Utah to live with
his sister. It was strictly the lure of the mountains and the opportunity to
snowboard everyday that drove him in that direction, as well as a chance to be
around something new. After a year of solitude in the mountains Robson returned
to Dallas once again. By this time his skills had greatly improved and the
songwriting had matured. Jackson as well had polished his skills on the guitar
and found his own style. At a friendly gathering of beer and barbeque, the two
began picking some songs. From that point on they have been steadily practicing
harder than ever and searching for other to form a full band. After years of a
roller coaster ride, the two have finally settled down, quit worse habits, and
decided to make a dream come true. The original drummer and bass player are no
longer around. After playing several gigs, the drummer was asked to leave. Thus
a search for a new on began. Rich Merriman stepped in and filled the role
perfectly. Just three weeks after moving back to Dallas from Nashville, he had
become the new full time drummer. He brings the band a steady yet edgy style of
drumming they had been looking for. Several months and a few gigs later, the
search for a new bass player began. For five months the trio of Robson, Jackson,
and Merriman filled dates without a full time bass player, hiring one when
needed. Finally the call was answered with Kevin Poe. Poe, a veteran to the
stage, has been playing in rock bands nationally for the last ten years.
However, looking for a new musical direction, he was turned on to Texas
Country/Americana. Thus he answered the ad *LOOKING FOR A BASS PLAYER*. Poe's
smooth playing and confidence in skill level is just what the trio needed. The
Mo Robson Band is now complete and turning heads everywhere they play. With
their first release due out in the beginning of 2001, and a calendar of shows to
play, things are looking up. It seems patience and persistance are finally
paying off for this young talent.
