Feel free to skip Macross 7, its got great music but goes way off the charts with things that most likely won't present themselves agian. (Like fighting off Devil Creatures with Music Power. Yeah.) Macross frontier so far is AMAZING! If you want to quick route to watching it I say watch the following:

Macross Plus
Macross Zero
The Movie of SDF Macross was better than the original series in everyway, if you still want the extended story lines go for the series but the movie is still a must see since it's completely redone art style is that good.

I hav seen zero, but its weird, and mix up with some of the teknologi, but the grafik is a big +, about the robotech it is the name jused i my country, first ep ever for me was 24, 25 og 26 macross saga, on a oldays tape, i think i was 8, but the name one the box was robotech, i liked the name and the series, and it is just robotech for me and still today it stands on the collection box i have
