i am not able to boot from usb even after i set my bois to boot from USB floppy or USB diskette or even USB-HD. I used a kingston 2gb pen drive formatted as FAT and extracted the .iso file to the USB. The computer says OS not detected.Remove any external drives and press any key to continue.

@mupilamda: you have to format your usb flash drive to be bootable.

Use PeToUsb on a bartpe builded winxp to a bootable usb drive.

i did everything i should and it comes up with this:
Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart.
there is no disk or anything in the laptop.. (acer travelmate 2420)
i set my default os to a half installed version of xp by accident so now when i turn my lappy on it loads that and i cant do anything.. if anybody knows a way i can get into the computer to change it back to my working version of windows vista please let me know.
i think i may be able to do it through this so if any info on how i can get this working please write back..

PeToUSB bricked my pendrive, will try to fix it with WinXP later.
Download unetbootin
Disable antivirus realtime protection
Run unetbootin and select bartpe.iso
Run it.

unetbootin didn't work, I guess it's for Linux distros only.

I had to use rufus http://rufus.akeo.ie/
since it is bartpe.

Confirmed working with the rufus tool. This is NOT regular windows XP its VERY stripped down but gets the job somewhat done. I needed to flash a new BIOS and was not able to use the packaged .exe flasher, was at least able to extract a .iso the manufacturer was kind enough to provide inside the compressed file. Hope this helps!

Couldn't get this to work with either the HP format tool or unetbootin. Went and downloaded the latest Hiren's instead, works great.
