She has appeared in numerous stage plays and musicals, feature films, and many television programs. She is known for her performance of The Ladies Who Lunch in Stephen Sondheim's 1970 musical Company, her 2001 one-woman show Elaine Stritch at Liberty, and recently for her role as Jack Donaghy's mother Colleen on NBC's 30 Rock. She has been nominated for the Tony Award four times in various categories, and Elaine Stritch at Liberty won. She appeared on the Cosby show. Filmmaker Rick McKay starred Elaine Stritch in his award-winning feature documentary, Broadway: The Golden Age. Soon after he followed her through rehearsals with a camera and crew to create and produce the segment Elaine Stritch: At Liberty for EGG: the arts show on PBS. Much of that footage, the only shot of the original show's rehearsals, appears in the HBO documentary, where McKay is credited. Stritch also appears in McKay's sequel to Broadway: The Golden Age. The New York production of Elaine Stritch at Liberty opened at the Neil Simon Theater in New York on Feb. 12, 2002 and ran for 69 performances.

Life continues in our ever-being universe and Elaine will live on in hearts for her humour, not a nasty humour, but at times a touch of biting and to the point. Just her name has to be mentioned or seen and a smile comes to my face. Graceful in her own original way is how I see the great dame of theatre and humour.
