Could you consider loosless encoding.
FLAC or wavpack. Then we can encode at any BR if needed.
and add the log or some info about the ripping. If you rip with WMP + the CD-DVD of the laptop, or if you use EAC correctly configured and a Maxtor CD-DVD by example, it is night & day.

Best for archiving
Then anybody can split the file, re-encode with whatever codec he likes at any birtares he need at any pre-set he wants.
That's my take. Could be different for the others.

@vonstussi: I don't think anybody cares about that and mp3 is what almost anybody wants (especially in this genre there aren't many people who go for flac or looseless). 320k is more than enough for all those who listen to it on their mp3-players with cheap-ass headphones or on their computers with a 20$ stereo "system". Most people who REALLY want a good musical experience buy the cds anyway.

in my opinion you can't beat 320kbps mp3. it's the perfect balance of file size and sound quality. the only way to get the best sound quality would be FLAC but the file size is ridiculous when compared to mp3, which is why mp3 was so successful.
