In order to get this to work you haft to.
1. Change the compatibility to win95 on all the exe files on the cd.
2. When your screen goes red you haft to alt,tab and right click and close the error message
3. And when you have installed it you change the graphic card to Intergraph Intense 3D or some other card that works

For Vista Users unable to alt-tab to the error message and right click to close it:
Simply hold "alt" when you are alt-tabbing, and then you can right click and close the error message.
I tried the game with Intense 3d graphics or however it is called and the first 5 minutes of gaming are fine.
BTW I'm using Vista Ultimate x32

The only fix really is to right click on the shortcut icon, go to compatibility tab, and run in compatibility to windows 95. As for the game itself, it will run in high speed, unless ur using a dinosaur*old computer*. Google urself a program for slowing down ur pc while u play the game, and ur set. ^_^ HAPPY SHOOTING!!

A: You can solve this by opening the archived file with DAEMON Tools. When DAEMON automatically opens it, you will get an error. Ignore this, and open DAEMON's virtual drive (E:) and find the setup. Right click its icon, hit properties and go to compatibility and change it to Windows 95. Then install the game that way.
Q: It says it only works in Windows 95
A: Similar as above. For installing, you only need to change the compatibility for the setup file, and for running the game, you only need to change the compatibility of RESIDENTEVIL. Run it directly from the install directory and NOT from the start menu or desktop (unless you create a shortcut after you changed the compatibility).
Q: The game freezes after Barry kills the first zombie.
A: There is a way around this by simply getting the secret zombie scene. After you talk to Barry in the dining room, go back into the main room and talk to Wesker, then go back and talk to Barry. Then head back to Wesker again and Barry will say something like "lost courage already, Jill?". Run back to him and, when you get near the clock, the zombie will go after you and Barry will kill him without the game freezing.
Hope that helps. I still don't know how to fix the game animations going super fast but it really isn't game breaking so I think we can all live with it.

Seems to be workin ok for me. Other than puttin the setup.exe and residentevil.exe on compatibility mode for 95, I didn't have to do too much. There was a part where an error window came up at the first part of the install, but I closed that window thru task manager and continued on with the install. I'm running it on Vista x64.

1. Make the "Setup.exe" compatibility into windows 95
2. Click "Setup.exe" and is you see a red screen press alt+tab and close the error massage
3. and select "Intergraph Intense 3D" for the graphic and click next
4. install its and just click it all the room data,music, etc...
5. after installing it make the "RESIDENTEVIL.EXE" compatibility into windows 95
6. And play the game...

Windows 7 ultimate..ok this is what i did..i kinda got lucky..more of a stumble upon solution..
1. extracted files from iso with MagicISO
2. extracted to program (x86)/RESIDENT EVIL
3. made all files (that have the option) compatible to Windows 95
4 in the direct x folder i just ran the direct x setup (nor sure if it was needed)
5.clicked on LAUNCH chose intergraph 3d rendition (not sure if this was needed either)
6.to play game launch "RESIDENT EVIL"
..the game is very quick on my pc..graphics aint all that..and NOW the game IS very very funny..the acting is really just that, acting..however it's a good trip down memory lane..

Clark200666 \'s way works fine, the only thing you need to do is (after setting compatability to windows 95 and closing the error box when it pops up) is when it asks you to instal direct X (which it says is needed for the installation to continue) click NO, if u hit yes it will close the installation. game works fine, but fair warning it is a PAIN in the ass on PC, like all resident evil games (aside from #5 which you can use mouse in) playstation is the way to go for the first 4

I did everything Juwellz said to do and it worked perfectly. Using an Xbox 360 controller is much better than keyboard. Saved in lobby after killing 1st zombie, exited game, unmounted iso from daemon tools, remounted iso, started game, and I was able to load the saved game. Perfect. Win XP sp3

You can save the game by finding: Ink ribbons.
Once you done so you must find a typing machine (typewriter) to save the game.
(This will cost you 1 ink ribbon but there should be enough to find during the game.)

After that I still can play the game just fine (managed to bypass the Jill 1st zombie room problem and saved in the typewriter), but the sound never returned. I made a backup of the save files in the game's folder and unistalled/reinstalled it...no success..the game is mute.
If anyone got a way to turn on the sound again please share the info!

I've set all .exe files to 95W compatibility. I've got every .exe file mounted, I've went through "SETUP" and installed everything, except DIRECTX. I open "LAUNCH" through file directory, and then "RESIDENTEVIL" to start the game. I could finish the game with Chris fine, although I died quite a number of times before I managed to beat the game. The rocket launcher will get lowered when you've damaged the tyrant enough, meaning the faster you damage the tyrant, the faster the rocket launcher gets lowered.
It's very hard to do if you don't have enough magnum ammo though cause that's the strongest weapon. So I dunno if you can really beat the game without magnum.
Another tip, try to run clockwise to dodge tyrant's slashes. You'd have more chance dodging him this way since he uses his left hand to damage you.

Its a patch that makes your game run normally again, it's really quick too, just dl patch from us server and then run it, and bingo. Don't bother downloading programs to make your comp run slower like CPUKILLER , it's a waste of time D:

i followed instructions and i can start the game now (tnx everybody) but at the very beginning (when playing as jill) when you encounter the first zombie and barry blows his head off, the game stops right in the middle of their conversation, along with that annoying clock ticking. don't know if anybody else got fucked by that, but i guess i'll be playing as chris until i find the solution (or face the similar bug somewhere else in the game)

2. When you go back in, try to exit again and Barry will make a comment.
3. Then walk up and talk to Barry.
4. Next, walk past the clock and a different cut-scene takes place

Hey, I need some help please. I got the game to start, I start new game, yeah its fast but i don't really care, but it skips the intro movie, and automatically shows three characters in the mansion and then the game shuts off and a message comes up saying "Could not open file: /horr/usa/voice/V101_00.wav"

For install, grab a ISO mounter program such as Daemon Tools.
Mount ISO and then get inside the disk instead of trying to run it. Inside you'll see the applications. From there run the compatibility to windows 95*.
Then after all of the or windows 95 run the setup, click the windows button on the keyboard or alt+tab and click the "error" message and close it. It'll ask afterwards about the graphics, select the second bottom one. Then the install location and what to install. Click them all and after click no on the directx3a thing. Go back inside the disk and send the RESIDENTEVIL.exe to the desktop "shortcut" to run it or use the launcher I think too.
Then either play it with it's full speed or use a program to slow it down. This is by far the best Resident Evil pc port I've used. The others either give errors or just don't work. It's always better with the disks, even if I have to keep it mounted.

Game works great, just gotta work around a few things.
1)Mount and install full game (Set the setup.exe to run under win 95 compatibility)
2)Copy Horr folder from disc to game directory
3)Get director's cut 1.0 nocd crack from gamecopyworld
4)Extract crack to game directory (Not USA folder) and set residentevil.exe to win 95 compatibility mode
5)Go to graphics panel for whatever card you have, smother the game in as much AA as you can, and set the vsync. If your using nVidia use adaptive half refresh rate. If your using ATI buy an nVidia. :P
This got it running fine @ 30~ frames and looking somewhat smoother. No resolution control so AA is best you can do to cancel out jaggies. Game is a nice blast from the past and completes the set on my HD.
