thanx for good old classic movies in HD. cheers

Dustin Hoffman once said in an interview that he only made Straw Dogs because he needed money. He found the film too violent. And he does not hielt. I do not share his view. It is a klasieker he can be proud. Thanks for the blu ray version. Finally in HD.

Note that this rip is done with the DTS sound track, and the movie is about 2 hours long, so yes you need at least 4.5 Gigs to give enough bandwidth to the audio and video tracks. For those concerned about file sizes why do you even post? Just move on.
For stupid people:
Even on a DVD the audio and sound are put into streams, which end up being encoded into .vob files. They are compressed streams that take up in the old days, about 4.2 gigs and in newer days take between 6 to 8 gigs.
THAT'S JUST DVD, and it's compressed!! That is a video file for widescreen that is 720x480! DVD
So, when you compress a 720x480 compressed video and audio stream down to something like 1.5 gigs, you lose bandwidth and if you display that video on something like a 32" TV or above, it doesn't look that good. That's DVD The amount of pixels you are displaying is 345,600 pixels.
With bluray the compressed streams on the disk take up about 15-24 gigs, and they are using a BETTER compression scheme (H264). Now, these video stream are 1920x1080. Can you do the math? 2,073,600 pixels. So the first thing that happens with a 720p rip is that you have reduced the amount of pixels down to 1280x720 which is 921,600 pixels, a reduction of about 50%. Computer video players do a good job of upscaling this to 1080p, as long as you have provided enough bandwidth to the video stream so that information isn't lost. I haven't researched the exact amount of bandwidth you need for just the video stream, but I do know that the best images I have seen from 720p dedicate at least 3.5 Gig.
The DTS sound track for a 2 hour movie adds about another 1.5 gigs.
It's why you constantly see 720p rips of blu-ray movies take about 4.7 gigs.
If you see a 1080p rip, then you have to expect the file size to be 8 to 12 gigs to have provided enough bandwidth so that the compressed files come up looking really good.
For rips from something like Yify, if you display those on a monitor bigger than say, 22" you can already see how it is fuzzy, or there are artifacts, etc... You just can't make rips that small and expect any type of quality.
Bottom line: If you are looking for quality then expect rips from blu-rays to be at LEAST 3.5 gigs, and that's pushing it, and that's with a stereo sound track instead of DTS. Once you have a DTS sound track then expect at least 4 gigs!

thank you luckybd for that nice explanation, as most people nowadays just worship smaller files without really viewing them on nice systems and such. that made a lot of sense, and even though I watch the majority of my movies right on my wide screen HD laptop, I also would like to watch them on my flat screen and I used to immediately go for YIFY downloads (and often still will depending on what movie it is), but the compression really does kill some of the quality, especially with the audio. with a good connection and some terrabytes of storage, I now usually will look around based on comments
