On a personal note: Ugh! It was kind of a cop out of an ending. It doesn't have the weight of the original british version. I was hoping for better.
It went in a different direction, toward "science fiction-ie"; an interesting idea, very interesting really, but so poorly written and executed in the end it drags it down. Sad really. I think if they could have spent another 10-12 minutes on the end scenario they could have tightened the story up and perhaps made it satisfactory (at least to me). Of course they had to fit EVERYTHING into 44 minutes.
It kind of felt like the last paragraph of one of my bluebook essays in high school where I knew I was running out of time so had to cram it in without a rewrite in the last 2 minutes before the bell rang. The general idea was there, it could be good, but I knew it needed polishing and fleshing out.
Also shows the difference between british and american TV culture. How the british can have uncomfortable endings while we demand "happy" endings.

ABC cancelled the series so the writers had to come up with a quick ending to wrap it up. They obviously thought the twist from the movie The Thirteenth Floor was so fantastic that they'd copy it, and to appear creatively original, they added in a bit of the Red Dwarf season 6 finale, Back To Reality, including Holly. Sadly the final special effects were crappier than a homemade YouTube video.

Loved the show. I'm sad it ended this quickly. I'm left with a lot of the same feelings I had whe faced with the Firefly ending. (movie)
The show had potential, but sadly it's been wrapped up way too fast.
