All right guys, here's the deal: My internet sucks. I've been seeding since last night so just be patient... after someone gets a full copy (which should be soon) please seed. Seeding means keeping your Torrent client up and running after the download so that other people can download from you. To be able to port TF2 or any other game like that I need a Steamless version, and right now I only have CS as a Steamless version... so just wait and we'll see... also, in about half an hour or so I'm going to take a break from seeding and move my computer someplace where I'll get double the speed I usually get... so just be patient guys and this'll all be done soon and you'll be able to play the game ^.^

Glad to see some of you are having decent download speeds... because my upload is sadly 45 kbps :( and here's something important about the game: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN IT UNLESS YOU'RE THE ADMIN. Before anyone can play the game the Admin of the computer needs to run it once.
..And to the guy asking for CS Cider Port... it really isn't that easy.. but not that hard.. problem is I also need to port the Source Engine... which comes bundled with HL2.. so we'll see... anyways... I've been doing my best when it comes to seeding but I don't think my internet's gonna get faster anytime soon so bear with me. ...also if you're going to be playing on anything besides a Macbook, the settings are currently set at their lowest, so make sure to update everything from the options menu. A normal Intel iMac should be able to run it with all settings at high. That's all for now ;)

I got the game onto another computer and had that turned on too for a while but then the power went out.. and.. well.. long story short no one besides me has a full copy yet... and if they do have one they're an asshole :)

HL2 WILL RUN ON ALL MACS.
It runs perfect on my GMA graphics card (supplement) and it'll run fine on anyone else's. No one has the full copy yet but in about half an hour or so lot's of seeders will appear. This all ends today folks. Just be patient, and when you get your copy seed your heart out. That is all. Oh, and @ ARTIKNL, I played it on a 24" iMac. It looks just fine with all the graphics cranked to the max.

Mrberu, I have HL2 on the PC, but being a Mac Gamer my dream was always to play on the Mac. Fact is that my dream was to play the original Half Life on the Mac before Valve cancelled it :(. Thank you so much Mrberu! I tried this game under BootCamp and it ran horribly, even with the lowest settings. Under Cider it's perfect (the text is a little irritating, but still very legible and a VERY small price to pay to be able to play one of the best FPS ever).
I'm running a 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, GMA X3100 MacBook. I've got most settings on medium or low. I'll try turning them up later and see.
Also, I'm REALLY excited at the thought of you porting TF2. DEFINITELY do that if you can! Good luck.

Ok guys, glad to see you like it, and I'm currently working on TF2 so I'll post that when it's ready. For all of you with the bugs, they are probably because of your computer. Remember that this game was not meant to run on your computer so most applications that effect other applications (and by other I mean HL2) should be turned off. The text can easily be fixed with a little fiddling but I'm not going to bother (rather have TF2).
If you run the game for a very long time in a row it'll get really slow so restart the game every once in a while. Almost all loading bugs happen because of the access privileges. Make sure you're playing as the Administrator user. Make sure all apps are closed (I usually can run HL2 with 3 apps open and I cmdTab between them, but if you have bugs do this), and if any problems persist delete the file and unzip the .zip file again. That's all the advice I have. I've tested HL2 on more than 3 computers and it should work flawlessly, if there is a problem, chances are it's your computer, not the game.

Mrberu, that's how it always happens. People finish downloading the game and quit Azureus (or whatever they're using) because they want to play or because they see their ratio is good enough, etc. I seeded for a bit after it finished downloading but then quit because I wanted to turn off my computer (I don't like keeping it on for too many days in a row). I'm now back up and seeding. I'll continue seeding (though it'll be off and on) until your TF2 port is released and I've finished downloading that. I've already uploaded over 8 GBs!!

I doubt it. You need an external launcher such as Steam or Steambuster to load up mods. They used a new method since Half-Life 1. I'm pretty sure you need the GCFs and they use a program called Source SDK Base in Steam to load em up. I didn't download this, I'm just guessing it's an extracted release.

I've noticed a few minor graphic bugs (red box over the reticle for instance) but up until half-way through "Black Mesa East" it's been extremely stable and great graphics.
I've got a MacBook Pro 2.33Ghz, 3GB RAM, ATI x1600 256MB VRAM and I can run it at just bout highest settings. I don't max out anti-alias or any of that because I can run the game at my native resolution so 2x is more than enough to keep it smooth. It's probably not even necessary but it looks and runs great so who cares?

Okay, I have a few problems.
First of all, after a few Loading.. screens it's said "Node Graphs Out of Date Rebuilding". I assume this is because I'm on an integrated graphics machine but is there a way to get rid of this? It always adds a bit of time to all the loads. It's no big deal if it can't be fixed because it doesn't seem to impede gameplay, just a bit of an irritation.
Also, recently, I've had 2 crashes, both for the same reason. I've attached a screenshot of the dialog box that pops up after it crashes. The first time this happened it was after I hit 'E' to load after I was killed by a dropship in that fight against all the Combine after you have to put your buggy in the garage and the second was when I was on the rocks in the part where you can't touch the sand or else the Antlions attack you.

Guys... the "Node Graph Out of Date" bug isn't going anywhere anytime soon... so let's just deal with it for now. The "Runtime Error" crash bug happens, from my experience, because you've been playing the game too long restart every once in a while), or sometimes when you're loading a file. It usually happens when you mess around with lot's of things (e.g. The settings) and shouldn't usually appear when you run the game, load a game, and just play. Remember that this is an unofficial cider ports so there will be bugs... and the target reticule/text thing.. is that really THAT bad? I can fix that, but it'll take a while and I don't really have the time.

I've been looking for the files to set parameters for a while now, and I'm pretty sure if I knew how to do this using Terminal I might be able to get an Applescript file to do so (since most commands in the terminal can be executed in automater etc.) just send me an e-mail:

It's currently impossible to play official Steam games on Cider since they require Steam to run. If and when I port CSS or TF2, you'll only be able to run them on Cracked servers. :( Until then... try to wait. I've had lot's of bugs with Portal so far... and have to keep testing and trying things out. If it wasn't for Steam everything would be soo easy.

Guys... good news, bad news time. Xerxes has gotten Portal to work, but he's one a faster machine. Now unless my copy of Portal is corrupted, this means Portal will only run on Macbook Pros and Desktop Macs :( I'll be able to shed some more light on this issue after I test my new version of portal, but if this is the case, then TF2 won't run either :((((

What I've played so far works great! I have a MBP with the GeForce 8600. I have a legit copy of HL2 on my bootcamp partition, and this runs just as well besides the text issue. Absolutley fantastic job! It's great to be able to play my favorite game without having to switch over to windows. Looking forward to the eppys and Portal!!!

Dunno if it'll work on 10.4.. and @smehrt... just unzip double click and play.
Here's some info on Portal and Eps. 1 and 2.
Xerxes has all of them running on the Cider template.. I do too but with major graphics bugs. I'm on a normal macbook and hes on a pro. I believe this is because SPORE's cider version is meant only to work on the more powerful graphics cards, that's why the configuration won't run it on macs. Until we see why this is, I believe the SPORE ported games won't run on Intel GMA 950 cards (normal macbooks). I'll try to get to the root of this tomorrow... until then everyone should wait. If this is the case, and if we eventually solve it.. then soon we'll all have a copy of the Orange Box on our desktops. Cheers .

Well, Kane's Wrath, Spore, the upcoming COD4 (also cider??) are all DX9 games. In the video option menu you can see the DX9 options grayed out.
For Ep2, TF2 and Portal, they should only be compatible with DX9 graphic cards.
Is it possible to use command line commands to force dx9? (-dxlevel 90)

To all of those who have and about to slag/bitch this release. Try and port it yourself, go on!
I'm very pleased with this. Yes you might not be able to change a few settings in it but my god...it is playable.
Play without: LAG or annoying slow downs.
For those of you who care. I might port over a couple of games myself.
Also, if you DO want to port but don't want windows on your hard drive then download "rip" versions of games, these are pre-installed versions of the game that run out of the box, so to speak. Then all you'd need to do is load the game with crossover office and set the settings up for the game and then port it over. VERY easy to do.
I'd love to know how you stopped it checking for steam though or is it one of those non steam hacks? doesn't matter, great release.

Ok guys... I got CSS working... online servers too. One problem though... the game's version isn't updated. I need to update the game, work out a few bugs (the most important bug is that I can't run the game without editing certain files. You need to install the game into your Half Life 2 game. A.K.A. this torrent... and once you do, every time you want to switch you need to modify the configuration settings which is annoying so I need to find a work around for this too.)
Once I fix everything, I'll upload it. Expect an upload soon. :D

I also got the SPORE template running on GMA 950... but it runs very slow. It's barely playable and you won't enjoy it right now. I'm going to mess with the preferences and see if I can speed things up manually, but if not, the problem may just be that Portal (that's what IT tried, i'll take a peek at HL2e2 and TF2 later) itself won't work on our computers :P

Twice it's crashed (Runtime error) at the same spot. Last night I was playing the part where Alyx scales the building, points out a place to go and then the Combine start shooting her and you have to go on your own. Once it hits the next load point it crashes after it should've finished loading. I just tried again tonight and it does the same thing, though I was able to see the Node Graph before it crashed. Should I try loading up an earlier save or is this part messed up or something? Glad to see you're still taking our questions, Mrberu and thanks again for the great port!

The C++ runtime error is a common one, and happens every once in a while. Just load from a previous saved game and play again. No biggie.

Make sure you're the admin! Log onto the administrator and run the game. You only need to run the game once as an admin, then anyone can play. (This is so that the game can save the preferences on launch in the Macintosh HD>Library directory.)

Now there's a problem if you have to go root to play the game. You obviously don't have the access privileges. Try running the game outside of root mode now, from what I know, if the problem is access privileges, it should be fixed now. All it takes is one successful run to get rid of the bug (it's all about the config file and where Cider saves 'em, which in this case is your Macintosh HD)

Wait.. lol.. you're trying to run portal. why didn't you say so? You should have posted this at the Portal torrent's page, but whatever, here's the deal:
Make sure you're not on GMA950 cards, else the game won't run
Make sure you're the admin (try cmmd+i on the app, then set the permissions so everyone has read and right abilitie)
Make sure the preferences are deleted.
Quit all other applications
Try it again

Some bug:
When I hit the new game and choose episode - game comes smooth and everything begins. BUT! I cant move! On keyboard all the keys are working excluding the letters and arrows. But whe you go to keyboard menu and hit some kind of replacement for example for WASD - it couldnt change at all! Precisaly: I double click the Walk Forward, it becomes orange and empty, I push for example R but it remains W.
So all keys are working like Fs, Shift, Space, etc beside the letter-ones :(

THIS GAME DOES NOT INCLUDE THE LOST COAST!
I've never played the Lost Coast (I own the Orange Box, you see), and I just thought the level when you race across the coast in a buggy was it (a friend of mine said, and I quote, "The Lost Coast isn't that big of a deal... you just go to some town, kill some guys, and shoot down a plane with a rocket. No biggie").
So.. yeah... NO HL2 LOST COAST!
I'm currently working on porting it, but I don't want to have to upload another 1gb file, so you guys need to bear with me while I try to
A) Get the game running. and
B) Get rid of all the unnecessary files.
Sorry for the confusion, I'll be getting it to you guys soon. Also, I know some of you must be kind of grouchy that it's not included, but for god's sake, look at where you are. You're playing HL2 on a Macbook. Just be patient, and enjoy your current situation. Me and Xerxes are doing our best.

To those having the keyboard issue, I honestly have no idea what's causing the problem. Make sure your keyboard is set to the usual "U.S." settings in international. Make sure num lock isn't on (i know it's probably not, but can't hurt to tell you)
Did you apply the fix? While applying the fix you will also end up reseting all settings back to their defaults so that should help.
Maybe there's something wrong with your keyboard? (Foreign? Too new? I don't know)
Worst case scenario, get a new copy of the game (did you save the .zip file?), and just use that. If it still doesn't work, the problem is probably with your keyboard, maybe you should by an external one? (It'd bode well with your Logitech Mouse ;) )
Sorry I can't be of more help, but when I'm not suffering from a problem there's not much I can do :(

I had this kind of problems playing some game through CrossOver when all the buttons were working except letter ones. Also this problem accures in Heroes 5 made by Freeverse through Cider. I've read on some forums that it somehow is connected to new macbook keyboard specification that was used from models MB06x RS/B (also X3100 appeared there). But I made all the updates even Keyboard Firmware official update for Macbook.

Sory for saying apply the fix, I thought this was my CSS torrent (whenever I check them, I check them all at once)
Try deleting your game's config file? Right click your HL2 app, and navigate to Files>>root>hl2>cfg and delete the file named config.cfg
Then go to Macintosh HD>Library>Preferences and delete the Cider X3 Preferences folder.
This should restore ALL settings to their default versions. Try it out and tell me how it goes.

hey mrberu. first of all, you rock!! i've played tried css and half-life 2. css works great except for half-life 2. It keeps crashing everytime it says "loading"

First things first, delete your preferences folder (Cider X3) at Macintosh HD>Library>Preferences.
Then just try to start the game from scratch (New Game, first Level)
If this doesn't work, then chances are you're missing some files. Re-Unzip the file you already downloaded.

i dont know if people have seen or spoken about this.. but whenever i open the game, it blinks like mad crazy! it literally blinks so much that it looks like one of those black and white hypnotizing screens lol
well one thing i did notice was that whenever it blinked, i was able to see the background, so like the scenery which u cannot touch or go to (cause it becomes black once u go there)
well that was my "complaint"

Sorry man, don't know :S Garry's Mod really isn't up there on my "Must Port" list of games, so I haven't really bothered, but if you want to you can take a crack at porting it yourself. I'm sure there are a few Cider tutorials out there, find one and take a shot at it. (I advise using the normal HL2 template, that works best with the Source engine)

I've got a 256MB RadeonX1600 (it supports DX9) but the game refuses to accept the 'mat_dxlevel 90' command. Infact it won't accept 81 or 80 either, only 70 (though I do believe it's playing in 81). All options are set to HIGH but Water Detail and Shadow Detail keep defaulting to the lowest settings. Any help?

hey mrberu and others. i've played through until the "Follow Freeman" part and now every time I load a save game it disables the AI. troopers just stand there so I can pop them off. certainly makes the game easier but it isn't exactly fun. :P

Hey guys, sorry for not responding in a while.
This game does not support DX9. It goes up to DX7 so that GMA950 cards and the later, more advanced ones can run it without problems. If you want to use DX9, download the latest SPORE cider template (download the creature creature), and.. well... sigh... basically switch the template from the current one, to a SPORE one... it's too large to explain in comments.
Gordon258, can you please live without fancy water effects? None of the Cider versions can emulate HDR, so really, all you're missing out on is water. Also, your graphics card has a lot of trouble running certain games, or at least mine does (on my iMac). I'd recommend staying with this template because it's easier, simpler, safer. DX8 is really buggy, hell... DX9 isn't even supported by Transgaming (the guys who make Cider)

That is a VERY strange bug, I've never heard about it before.
To all of you having auto-save issues... there are 2 reasons it can be happening:
1) The game can't save. Maybe your privileges don't allow it to. Please play as that computer's ADMIN account.
2) I've had issues with graphic cards, and preferences folders being over written (on other machines). I say delete your preferences folder in Macintosh HD>Library>Preferences>Cider X3 Preferences.
If that doesn't work, you can manually delete your saved files (they may be corrupt for some reason). Just ctrl+click the app, go to Life 2>root>hl2>SAVE and delete all the files there.
Please remember these are unofficial for a reason, and that we're lucky they even run at all ;)

i found mention of it in some PC threads like this
apparently the problem only occurs on pirated games (i'm assuming you ported a pirating version - fair enough). they offer some help on how to activate it again in the console but neither "ai_debug_actbusy 1" or trusty old "ai_enable" were working for me. there was some text in the console but unfortunately the choppy text meant i can't read it (the first time the text issue has bothered me :P)
there was mention in one of the threads that linked off this one about being able to delete a line in one of the autoexec files so that it doesn't disable automatically but there must be a command for me to start it again in the console.
i don't think this is an isolated problem either. there's a comment way back on some previous page about it.
help! anyone?

open the .bat file in your favorite text editor, copy the parameters (they should look something like this: -steam -game -l4d) and the open your preferences file. Add this to the final line:

if your .exe file is named something besides HL2, then delete hl2 and put in your .exe's name. That should allow you to run the game with a simple double click on the icon.

this is the last comment im writing, guys i tryed to run L4D with cider, i solved all the problems i could but it wasn enough, i get to the game main menu, i can see the options but when i click them there is no font, after some clicking al over the screen i got to the loading screen for the game, but after like 15 seconds it crashes adn it doesnt show up any errors, this is really sad, i have been waiting for this game since its first announce and now i dont know when im gonna get to play it, maybe its because im using a macbook but well thats it i hope some port this game or whatever... thanks Mrberu for your help. L4D won't run on my HL2 version of Cider, since it always forces DX7. You can add the parameter "-set DXlevel 81" but I don't think it'll make a difference. Being on a macbook (like me) life is gonna be hard. If you e-mail me at accountanonymousATliveDOTcom I can help you further, but in a nutshell, what you need is the SPORE version of Cider.

Works like a charm on my Macbook Pro, thank you Mrberu!
The font issue (ugly red stuff around the letters) is easily resolved: Open up (show package contents):

and add "antialias" "1" (with the quotes) to the CloseCaption parts. For the menu fonts, open up CombinePanelScheme.res, and add the same line ( "antialias" "1" ) to the impact font parts.
You can also modify the other parts there if you don't like the size/font in-game. Have fun, and remember to make backups of your .res files before you start messing with them.

Mrberu yesterday i made a lot of progress with L4D, i downloaded this cider version
it says to be to be the latest cider version, anyways by using this one i got all of the menu fonts work perfectly, but when i try to run the game i get the loading screen and this little loding circle keeps spinning but the progress bar doesnt move at all and after like a minute the circle stops spinning and i can still move the mouse but do nothing else.

Glad to see the game's at least running. You're using the PoP build. What graphics card do you have? Is the main menu of L4D an animation (like, a world?), or just a steady image? Also, why don't you try adding the following parameters into your config file:
"-dxlevel 81 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 0"
I presume you already added the older parameters (-steam -game ). Add the ones I linked above, that might help. Where did you get your copy of L4D btw? Like i said before, please e-mail me, so we can keep this section clear for comments about HL2

With Cider Port, all works properly, but the game is just slow (very very slow), i think we need to wait the last Cider.
I use the 1835 version with some DLL files (for the mouse, for graphics,...). You need to modify the registry
With Crossover, all works perfectly, no bugs on graphics, the game run properly, but it is slow (but much faster than Cider ;) ).
You need to modity the regestry and to add, for example, this lines :
[HKCU\Software\Wine\Direct3D] OffscreenRenderingMode = fbo
[HKCU\Software\Wine\Direct3D] [HKCU\Software\Wine\Direct3D] useGLSL = enabled
And maybe some lines:
[HKCU\Software\Wine\DirectInput] MouseWarpOverride = force
And in the config file:
PixelShaders : N/Y
VertexShaders : N/Y
PixelShadersLevel
VertexShadersLevel
etc...

Hey really great job on this one man. I am very pleased with the results, but i do however need help with a few things...
When I get started playing about maybe 7, or so, minutes into the game it'll freeze and i wont be able to do anything; I have to shut down and then restart my computer and try again to play. Hey guys,
Im having a weird prob...when I try to start a new game from Chapter 1, it freezes on the loading screen, but I CAN start a new game from Chapter 2. However, this freezes at the same spot everytime, either when Alyx or myself are in the transporter.
Am I just missing some game components? Ive repeatedly unzipped and started from scratch; same problem everytime.

Thank you so much Mrberu for uploading Half-life 2 for the mac.
I just have a few questions. The first being is that i have no trouble running Half-Life 2 on my macbook, but there is a ton of pop-in textures. I was wondering if this happens with the original game. Also, there is a weird clear arch on the ground (of the game) that shows really clear and crisp textures but outside of that clear arch everything is really blurred and distorted. works fine except for this:
when i turn on water reflection and shadows on high, after applying everything's set back to defaults.
hdr and colour correction are not available.
in hl2 ep 1 everything is working just perfect. every setting can be changed and shows effects. the game runs slightly smoother although video settings are higher than in hl2.
anybody knows how this can be corrected?

Hey, just bought a new mac book pro yesterday. I can't seem to get this file to open. Everything downloaded fine, but when I click on the HL file it acts like it will start-up, with an icon flashing on the applications bar, but then nothing happens.

OK, I figured out how to run MrBeru's AWESOME release in development mode, from an alias. first, create a BASH script with the following lines in it: #!/bin/bash
exec "/Applications/Games/Half Life 2.app/Contents/MacOS/cider" -- hl2.exe -dev ...WITHOUT the stuff in brackets or the brackets. Save these lines in a .bsh text file, then CHMOD this file so it's an executable. Then, make an alias to that, get info that alias, and drag-and-drop the half-life icon on it - voila, runs in dev mode with the console enabled! :) :)

"cider sucks on a macbook." - only the fonts on MY macbook suck - everything else works fine. 2 GB RAM, 2 GB Intel Core Duo. "...It won't run [insert comment here]..." 99% of the time it's because of permissions. Get Info on the app, correct the permissions, and it'll run.

I just finished downloading and I can't run this! When I click the icon it briefly flashes a window that says it's opening it, but then a window pops up that reads 'warning the following disk images could not be opened. Image: halflife 2 collection Reason: image data corrupted'. Now I'm pretty sure I'm just being ignorant and don't know how to open this properly. For trouble shooting, I'm on a mac OS X 10.6.7 HELP!?! I need this.
Despite this, I'll keep on seeding my ass off.

Hey, like other comments I've seen, I have downloaded and unzipped the application and everything has gone fine. But when I click on the application, it opens for a split second, then is unresponsive. I have a Intel GMA X3100 graphics card and am running lion if that means anything. Thanks!

grampa, all u need to do is chmod u+x and then place the appication after that with no spaces

Umm... guys... it's been 6 years since I uploaded this. Half Life 2 has since been officially ported to OS X, and released on Steam. You should probably go play that version. I don't think this version will work on modern machines, and even if it does, it will be a subpar experience to the official release (this release uses DirectX 7, lol).
