Metallica - Death Magnetic(The Moderus Remix)

Description:

Metallica - Death Magnetic Edited, Remixed, and Remastered by Moderus. Tracklist: 1. That Was Just Your Life 2. The End of the Line 3. Broken, Beat & Scarred 4. The Day That Never Comes 5. All Nightmare Long 6. Cyanide 7. The Unforgiven III 8. The Judas Kiss 9. Suicide & Redemption 10. My Apocalypse This isn't an EQ job. I didn't try and make the album sound like I wanted. I made it sound like it was supposed to. It's as close to the retail cd as I could possibly get it. It's loud. It clips. It DOES NOT have the fucked up distortion like the retail. Take it or leave it. *edit* This mix is NOT how I personally wanted the album to sound. It's an attempt to recreate the retail disc WITHOUT the problems. In the making of this mix, I used NO compression on the GHIII stems. I DID NOT use an EQ slider to just make it "sound" good. I DID amplify some sections where the guitars where not properly leveled with each other, meaning the left and right channels were no where close to being level, sometimes by 3db or more. I felt this was a problem introduced by the ripper or the signal coming from wherever it was ripped from, NOT from some stupid artistic choice made by the band. In my opinion, all previous mixes where made for personal tastes rather than trying to actually make a mix. Adding EQ to some files and saving them is NOT a remix, remaster, redo, or anything of the sort. It's an EQ job and anyone can do it themselves to suite their own personal tastes. What I've tried to do is eliminate the need to add EQ and have it properly mixed AND mastered, and in doing so, retained about 80% of the dynamics while also keeping with how Metallica wanted their album to sound.

Cheers mate. Very much appreciated

redthahat (2008-10-21)

Been looking forward to this one! Much appreciated Moderus! From the sample that I have heard already, it still does clip quite a bit, but more in a way that gives it a little grit, whilst retaining those sweet sweet dynamics. Love it! Best representation of what the album was supposed to sound like!
Love your work!!
Anyone who finishes downloading this, please help to seed and take the load off Moderus! He worked hard for this one, so help him out with your bandwidth for a while!

Hopefully a lot of you will help me seed this if you like it.

For me the best one so far has been this one:
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/4431257/Metallica_-_Death_Magnetic_(remastered_by_eetfunk)_-_FLAC

But I'll give this a shot too :)

spikemonkey (2008-10-23)

Actually, which S&R track did you use Moderus?
Also, how the retail album sounds is how Metallica wanted it, so this remix has been made to how you want it to sound :D

Moderus (2008-10-25)

spikemonkey,
I made the retail version using the stems.
Also, it is NOT mixed how I wanted it to sound. It is mixed like the retail, leaving out all the distortion due to being overly compressed and raising the db too high. So it is more or less the retail without all the problems, NOT how I particularly wanted it to sound.

slipknot342 (2008-10-25)

Good version if you like a more raw, gritty, and less dynamic version (more akin to the retail version), but with less distortion just like the description says. I do not prefer this version because, although it is an improvement over the retail when it comes to distortion, it still sounds just as squashed and compressed as the retail. The dynamics are destroyed nearly as much. It is not different enough from the retail for me. I am not criticizing Moderus for this, as he clearly stated that was how it sounds in the description. I am only stating that, for what it is, it is a good version and clearly better than the retail; but I prefer the GH3 remaster by eetfunk. It does not clip and has the full dynamic range.

This is a great version. Thank you so much.

OK, I now have no less than seven "remastered" versions of this album. So far, this is a tie for my favorite along with DECEiFER's.
I think that Moderus has done the best job so far of "fixing" the album. When I listen to this version, I feel like I'm listening to what the album was supposed to sound like.
At the same time, I think that DECEiFER has done the best job so far of "remastering" the album. I'm definitely not a fan of the "loudness war" trend, so I appreciate the improved dynamics of that version.

DECEiFER (2008-10-30)

I just want to pull in here and say that as good as eetfunk did, his is the most squashed. However your sound systems portray it, if you examine the technical data within the music files of his remasters, you will see that it is a little too lively. The CD version is far too lively, and much worse. This is because of the form of compression performed, called Limiting.
Without sounding too cheesy, Moderus' remasters are moderate, in comparison. That goes for my remasters, too. :)
But, each to their own. Every effort I have heard to-date has exceeded in quality compared to what Metallica have put on the shelves.
