fastfingers32 it is just a way of compressing the file that allows more compression than a single file, it's actually very popular on this site and I am surprised you are still unfamiliar with it. All you have to do is extract one of the files and you will get your iso.

Actually I prefer torrents that don't contain .rars because a) there is usually little or no savings and b) I must wait until the whole set of .rar files are downloaded before I can check the quality of what I'm downloading and c) I am given no choice to download only a subset of the torrent contents.
I prefer to see a list of the files in the torrent uncompressed so I can choose which ones I want to download and I can preview the sound and picture quality after downloading only a few meg.
But I appreciate that a lot of these torrents come from usenet where usage of rar files is prevalent due to the restrictions and limitations there. But I don't see any benefits to using rar files or other compressed archive formats with bittorrent where no such limitations apply.

It's actually to aid the distribution of the torrent to new peers. If you had 1 file at 800MB the distribution would take a lot longer. But if you pack an 800MB file across 40 torrent files (that's 20MB per rar) then it makes life a lot easier for everyone.
