A few things i hate about this great country is that most people don't appreciate what they have and abuse the government, i hear about those little rats complaining about school all day and its quite irritating how some kid a 3rd world country withes they could go to school. Let me first say that I'm not "anti-american" in any way. I have family there, and been there at least 20 times. But both Kottn and bubble09 are into something important here.
I'll use an example from my own country: We have social democracy which is NOT anywhere close to communism (some people seems to think so). We do NOT have any secret agencies like CIA or FBI, our leaders gets around 100 thousand dollars a year (and they can't have any income "on the side"). The power is divided across political parties, and important issues needs to be voted for. Also what every single citizen make in income, pay in tax, their fortune etc- is available from the IRS for everyone to read. All hospitals, schools (included college and university) is free. The crime rate is quite low (around 30 murders every year). The police don't carry weapons, and the laws are more in favour of the population (stright rules against telephone taps, the police are not allowes to go "undercover" acting as drug dealers, prostitutes etc- in order to make people commit crimes.) We pay around 30% in taxes, but still people make around 25 thousand dollars more a year (after taxes)in average- than americans do. No censorship against nudity and swearing on tv. Also we have around 8 major political aprties to choose from. Which gives people a chance to vote on issues, instead of good tv performance, a pretty face etc. And the political parties don't spend billions on campaigns, no tv adds etc. They only debate on tv (for free of course).
This is just a few examples. I'm not saying that my coutry is flawless, coz it certainly ain't. I'm just trying to get you to understand that whatever you've been told about European countries, is just based upon the fact that your government don't want you to know the truth. Even so, I can understand that you love your country and enjoy living there. Nothing wrong with patriotism. And there's lots of things about America you should treasure. But for Christ's sake- try to find out more about what's going around in the world for yourselves.

And also because we are the richest country in the world (source "Good morning America"), lend you money and invest in american industry. And the fact that we are the 3rd largest exporters of oil is also a point worth mentioning.
Our "oil fond" is considered as a major factor inside the WTO. Then there's humanitarian aid where we also play a major part (we're a small country, but still we are amongst the countries who gives the most. Around 7th or 8th largest donators I believe). We have also erased debt from poor countries in Africa (Democratic Republic of Kongo, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Sudan) + Burma in Asia, and Ecuador in South America. We donated large amounts of money to you after the hurricane Katrina catastrophy because your government asked for our help + sent people to help as well . Same thing happened after 9/11. Don't get me wrong, you deserved every cent. But to say we ?don?t make a difference? is a bit unfair.
I agree with you about political influence though. That?s equal to zero.
I would like to point out our strong economy don?t make us better than anybody else in any way. In fact I would never use this as an argument to prove anything,- other than that DWILLY ?s statement was wrong.
