The Dream Clinic WMNF 88.5FM Tampa, Florida, USA Wednesday 7-9pm EST www.wmnf.org The Dream Clinic is a community radio show dedicated to playing what I call "The Soundtrack of My Long Ago Wild and Wicked Youth"..:) It is mostly based on the music from the Sixties and Seventies. Whether it be actually recorded back then...or a new live recording by a band who touches on that certain sound. The Dream Clinic features music which for some unknown reason has fallen through the cracks and has never been explored on the typical commercial radio shows. The show has its roots in a fellow named Tony Cona who started a late night show on WMNF called The Dream Clinic after a radio skit he and friends did. That was 1985. Later my friend Mark Kraemer hosted the show for about 7 years by himself...4 hours at a time each week. I started somewhere around 1993 volunteering for duty at community radio station WMNF...shortly thereafter met Mark and found we had a lot in common musically. In the last 15 years several people have been involved with the show..Mike Slosberg, Jim Orr, Walter Storch, Mark Kraemer and myself..Dennis Stone. For about the last 10 years it has been my project...keeping the Dream Flame alive! We've gone through WMNF timeslots from the "So Late Its Actually Early" 2am-6am shows...to 3 different evening shows..Monday, Tuesday and now for the last few years...Wednesday 7-9pm EST. It is designed to be a weekly listen...something different each week...progressive, psychedelic, bluesrock, rare albums, live recordings, hard rock (remember hard rock before metal came along??)...lots of computer editing the sounds...never know what you might hear on The Dream Clinic!! Its our annual Valentines Day show...where we go back to some nice Sixties sounds. The Beatles begin the show with..of course..All You Need is Love. I was/am a major Beatles fan...I can still listen to their LPs and enjoy them as I did back in the day. I remember mowing lawns for $2 on Saturdays just to buy LPs as they came out. I bought all Beatles albums the day they were released starting with Magical Mystery Tour...Sgt Peppers...The White Album...Abbey Rd. A little dose of Love next...from the great Forever Changes record. Steve Miller...love his music up to the Number 5 1970 LP....played 2 that I hadn't played in awhile. Fleetwood Mac from Future Games again...I've played several from the "Bob Welch era Fleetwood Mac" lately. Woman Of A Thousand Years is a nice folky ballad track. King Crimson..I Talk to The Wind...not a bad track on the first King Crimson record...I consider it the "Sgt Peppers of Progressive Rock" And speaking of the wind...Circus Maximus follows with The Wind....IMO the best that group had to offer. Next..what I call the Jesse Orris Farrow 12 string set. Chet Powers, Dino Valenti, Jesse Orris Farrow...all the same talent, same guy. Time came from Dino Valenti's 1968 s/t LP....a really beautiful song....sometimes I wonder if he was a major influence for David Crosby. Quicksilver Messenger Service right after that with another Jesse Orris Farrow 12 string adventure...Long Haired Lady from the 1970 masterpiece "What About Me". Straight into H.P. Lovecraft from their 2nd album....after they had moved from Chicago to the San Francisco scene...a more West Coast sound with Spin, Spin, Spin. You should listen to both of the HP Lovecraft LPs for a real audio snapshot of the pre-heavy music Sixties sound...love 'em both!! Jimmie Spheeris from the record "Isle of View"....say it fast...get it? We had that vinyl in OKC...got it in a box of records won from a local FM radio show contest...imagine that..they sent a box of 20 records to a contest winner...one was the Spheeris LP and I do remember another being the pre-Eagles "Shiloh" recording. Lee Michaels had some cool music in the late 60s/early 70s....Barrel my fav...I remember my girlfriends sister Melodee had it in her collection along with the early Steve Miller LPs. I played 2 songs that he must have written for a girlfriend at the time. Golden Earring in a later live acoustic venture comes next. Mad Loves Coming and The Naked Truth...somewhat of a Love Confessional...:) Steven/Stephen Stills did Cherokee next...a short but so Sweet track. My god...if you are a young person reading this and have never listened to his solo LP from 1970...go get it NOW!!!!!! With guest appearances by both Hendrix and Clapton....there is not one bad song on the record...I could only dream that he would reissue this LP with some serious bonus trax!!!!! "Kiss of My Soul" was a track by an Indianapolis band called J. Rider. They were first called Anonymous...and then changed their name to J. Rider and put out the LP called "No Longer Anonymous"...tricky hey..:) I liked the song...!! A later mid 70's version of Iron Butterfly did the song entitled "Scorching Beauty" from the LP "Sun and Steel"....kind of confusing because they had another record called ...."Scorching Beauty"....but the song of that name was on Sun and Steel...go figure..:)...Anyway..it is a song that always generates phone calls to the station when I play it. Most common question...Wow..who is that??? It has a nice bluesy guitar line with some heartfelt vocals...a good pick for Valentines Day..:) And to end the show tonight...Santana from the 1972-1974 period. Two songs in reverse order from the LP Caravaneserai...Just In Time To See The Sun...Waves Within. These faded right into 2 more tracks from the overlooked and underplayed Borboletta LP....Flor de Canela>>Promise of A Fisherman.....many calls during this last set...comments on the great guitar solo Carlos played in the Fisherman track.
