Gamelan Sekar Tunjung - The Music of K.R.T. Wasitodiningrat

K.R.T. Wasitodiningrat, also known as Pak Cokro, is one of the leading figures in the musical life of Indonesia and Central Java in particular. Born in 1909 in the Paku Alaman palace in Yogyakarta where his father, R.W. Padmo Winangun was music director of the court gamelan. When his father died in 1962 Pak Cokro succeeded him. The music presented here is by the excellent ensemble, Gamelan Sekar Tunjung under the direction of Pak Djoko Walujo, a dedicated musician known throughout Indonesia and a member of the Indonesia Arts Institute. It was recorded using a full Javanese gamelan orchestra, five female vocalists (pesinden) and four male vocalists (penggerong). Enjoy and please seed!;-} Junco
