It was a bunch of Windows Shell Common Dll files for me, so what I did was right clicked the rzr-prot.001 and hit open with and selected winRAR then it showed the disk and I right clicked that and hit extract to specified folder. It extracted from all the other files normally.

lol I'm guessing you are aged around 12 years old. The game is designed by the creators of 'HULK', I assume you probably thought that game was the greatest ever aswell. It is more or less the same gameplay.
The gameplay in this game is generic, uninspired and tedious. You can't even aim the guns you can pick up, it 'auto locks'...sigh...if you were about 10 years old then I could see how this might be fun.

The sound/video speed problem can be solved by simply chaning from 5.1 to 2.0. For those who still encounter this problem, use .

This is exactly what I did, and It worked the first time.
-Open the first file with winrar
-Drag the iso file to your desktop
-Mount the iso file with MagicISO virtual drive
-Install the game.
-Go back the winrar and open the iso file with magic iso
-In the file razor1911 there is a file, drag that file to the prototype game file
-choose replace
I havn't had lag or sound issues, every thing works great so far.

With 7zip I extracted the first one (rzr-prot.001) and he didn't need any rar.

now run your game and enjoy a smooth prototype.

This fixed my problem immediately.

When I try to do the "Open Conspiracy" story quest the screen goes to "loading" and then it just keep loading and never moves on.

Just took a gander at the forums, and yup, the developers are fuckin dickheads. They think that somehow their game is too hardcore for any graphics card under 1GB of VRAM. Yeah, I'm sure it's 'so' hard to code in an advanced setup option.

I have experienced a similra sound issue exept theri sno sound whatsoever. I have tried to change the sound bit rate as it was below written, but it still does not work.
I have an X-fi Creative sc, which is perfectly working with all games I play, and it is up to date. I am running the game on Vista 64 bit and DirectX 10.
Does anybody have any idea what to do, because the game is running really smooth, but it would be even better with sound.

After installation and copying the crack I run the game like I would any other game, come to the main screen where it says "Press Enter" so I press it and see a nice trailer. After the trailer it goes back to the main screen and it just repeats itself the whole time.

Game is working good and it is awesome!

This game is a Giant turd in my eyes. I enjoyed the first hour or so then I became plan to see that it is just a beat um up. You can beat this game if you know the difference between the left and right mouse button. many have compared it to spiderman I can see how they would but there is no web slinging and thats the thing that made spiderman so great. The feeling of freedom is there you can go anywhere but you find your self cursing the game after the 15th time you've crossed the city to get your next mission. Also, The control system is unresponsive at best and down right restricting at its worst. It also breaks the cardinal rule imho for these types of games(free roaming with super human abilities) the game takes control of your character at every opportunity. You will often be just watching when the real action takes place and this is often. Its also embarrassingly easy with hundreds of people roaming the streets(to consume for health) even at the very height of the outbreak. Oh theres more. Like many beat um ups you can get away with using the same combo you start out with with no real reason to upgrade other then making the game even easier. It also reeks of a obvious console port which it is. Its "quick menu" and very sparse options to tone down the Hdr/bloom ,in fact you cant turn it off, and they got a bit carried away with the partical effects which serve more to block your view of the action then add to the realism of the game. without these the game would look very dated so maybe that is the reason the option wasn't included.

ok for people with the crackling audio problem i sorta found a solution, that is if you are up to reading subtitles. when the audio is crackling my game moves slow, i un-installed my sound driver and the game is running fast as ever but the second i re-install the audio driver it slows down the game. So if you're up to reading subtitles, this is what you do in XP SP3:
1)MAKE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR SOUND DRIVER! I am not liable for you messing up.
2)Start->Right click on my computer->Properties->Hardware Tab->Device Manager (first button)>Sound Audio And Game Controllers.
3) Look there for your sound card and un-install the driver.
4) when done playing just re-install the driver.
Hope this helps one or two of you in the meanwhile. Activision better be making a patch soon -_-

For everyone who gets giant lags and stuttering during game and especially movies: Disable as many HID's as possible. Everything except mouse and keyboard which you need, then it works like a charm. Great game :D Like GTA, but with superpowers :)

You need crack the game. Just open the .iso image, (with WinRar) and there is folder where you can find "prototypef.exe" copy that and then go to (example: C:\Program Files\Activision) and replace the other prototypef with pasteing in that folder.

thedevilwearsrolex, I think you are referring to the files that should be extracted using winRAR. Just make a new folder somewhere, and extract one of the files into the folder with winRAR and it should extract all of the files in the download folder. I haven't completed downloading yet, but I'm assuming that's what it is.

yep, it is. All you have to do is extract one of the .xx files into a new folder and you should be good to go, it should create an iso file. If winRAR doesn't give you the option to extract right away, just right click one of the files and hit "open with" and select winRAR.

I'm having the strangest problem. When clicking the cracked .exe i'm getting a window with the header "Parental Control", saying "You are restricted from playing a game with these ratings".
Happens even when clicking it on the CD. I'm admin and therefore parental controls cannot be applied to the account.

Game installs and works fine on my vista 64bit, untill I get to a mission in day 12. After completing the mission and seeing the cinematic where Alex gets gassed after infiltrating the military as a pilot, the game just stops. Black screen, nothing happens.

I have tried to find a solution to this problem for about a week now, but still cant get any help.
I downloaded both "Fallout 3" and this game.
Every time I start either game my monitor goes blank and I get the error "Not Supported Format"
One solution I have found only works for the game "prototype": by going through properties>compatibility and setting it to run in 640x480 resolution. However this does not work for fallout 3.
I have searched through a lot of forums and have found a few people who have the same problem. People have responded with suggestions to them, but none of them have worked for me.
If it helps my setup is: Q6600, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT, 32bit vista running on 1360x768 resolution.
I have tried:
A. Changing my monitors resolution
B. >1. Run dxcpl.exe from the Directx SDK folder
>2. Click on the ?Directdraw? tab then set the refresh rate to 60.
C. updating nvidia driver
Any opinions will help..

hey, idk whats up with my thing but for some reason i cant replace the two .exe files? the file that needs replacing is read only, and i cant change it. im using magic disc, and i tried burning it with power2go.
magic disc wont let me delete/replace/add new due to being read only and not having more space on the file i guess

Other time, I can start a game, and 3 letters will appear, then I crash to the desktop.

Prototype Sound Fix ? Summary
1. Open the file [ ..\Prototype\00audio.rcf ] via ScarfaceExplorer(search and download with google).
2. Extract files into the [ ..\Prototype\Audio ] folder.
3. Rename [ ..\Prototype\Audio\audio\ambience.p3d ] into something else.
4. Rename [ ..\Prototype\00audio.rcf ] into something else.
5. Select all files and folders (Ctrl ? A) in the [ ..\Prototype\Audio\audio ] folder.
6. Cut all files and folders (Ctrl ? X) in the [ ..\Prototype\Audio\audio ] folder.
7. Paste them in the [ ..\Prototype\Audio ] folder.
8. Start Prototype and play the game without any sound issues.

Ok for ppl struggling to rind the iso... you have to open winrar, then find the 78 or however many files, highlight them all and rightclick - extract to file. chose a place. it might say "some file is already there", jsut say No to All. And the iso appears :)

this game works great, i cant seed unfortunally because im out of disk space in this computer and the other one doesnt have net access :/
anyway, works perfectly.
for those who insist in not doing it right:
1- download daemon tools
2- right click on daemon tools icon, click one of the virtual drives (i think the default is the number zero)
3- look for the file you just downloaded
4- follow the install instructions
5- after install, dont forget substitute the prototype.exe on your install directory with the one that comes in the cd (go to your computer, right click on the prototype virtual cd, explore and look for it, it has the same icon as the one you have to substitute, you cant miss it :) )
6- PLAY!
If you have any more doubts AFTER (or during) following those steps, leave a comment ^^

this is basically a retail version of the game with the crack embedded in the iso! so if there any (none on my comp) glitches, just wait for patches. there is nothing wrong with the torrent. people complain a lot about free stuff when half the time they are too stupid to take the time and learn!
1. use winrar to extract - extract the first file only! all others will follow in chain reaction!
2.mount w/ ur favorite virtual drive (mine is magicdisc) and install.
3.go into iso and copy crack from crack folder(razor1911) to installation folder. launch and play.

them "mount" the .iso file (google it to figure out how to mount w/ the program you downloaded)
Then open up my computer and right click>Explore CD where prototype virtual drive is and go to:
CD Drive>Razor1911>prototypef.exe
copy this file to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Prototype *Or whatever directory takes you to your Activision Program Files directory.
It will ask you if you want to overwrite. Say yes.
Launch game.
Play.
Couple side notes.
Those people thanking Razor1911.. Razor 1911 is not a person it's a group of people started from a small hacking community in the late 70's. You can still thank ppl, but ffs don't act like Razor is a person.
I've successfully installed this on XP, Vista & 7 (all x64 so I sure x32 is fine) Don't listen to the tools that say otherwise.
If you have video issues. Google them instead of blindly asking help. Tons of info out there. Sucks to be you if your a lower level ATI user in a nutshell though.

Its real easy
just follow these steps:
-Make sure you have Winrar and Daemon Tools
http://www.win-rar.com/download.html - Click on the big blue button
- Get the LITE version, its smaller and runs from the toolbar, but its free
-There are alot of rzr-prot.###.rar
Select them ALL, dont miss one out, and only select the .rars
-Right click on the 1st one, and click EXTRACT HERE
-A .iso file should pop up
Wait for it to finish extracting
-Run Daemon Tools, a small daemon tools icon should popup in your toolbar
Left click it, select Device X - No media
Browse and select the .iso file
-Install it after mounting
-The crack should be IN the .iso
so go to My Computer>[directory where you mounted it] and right click, Explore, find the crack folder
-Copy the crack.exe, and paste it in your game folder,
It will ask you if you want to replace a file, you click yes, and delete the old one.
-Left click daemon tools, unmount all drives
-Try to run the crack
Make a shortcut to your desktop if you want
Thats what you normally do, and my download is only at 20% at 25kb/s so im uessing thats what you have to do.

Bukalo, download winrar (rarlab.com/download.htm) and extract the .iso file from the archive.
Really simple point-and-click process; you shouldn't have trouble with that.
After that, Google "Daemon Tools Lite" and install it. Open up daemon tools, right-click on the tray icon and navigate to virtual cd/dvd rom->device 0->mount image.
Find the .iso you extracted with the dialog box and the disc should be mounted.
Setup should work itself out from there :P

ok so you can say im not an expert with my computer but i know enough for downloading games muzik and applications....its all pretty simple
i already have winrar, and deamon tools pro... what i cant seem to do is extract any of the files because they dont seem to be compressed in any way, and there isnt any iso files showing up...the only files i have are a list of numbers (01 FILE,02 FILE, ect..), an NFO file and one SFV

Its quite easy. After extracting the archives, you should get a folder with a iso file in it. You will have to go online and download a tool called Daemon Lite, if you havent already. After downloading, follow instructions and install program. After install, there should be an icon in your system tray. Click that and it should say something like "Device 0: No file." or something. Click that, and search for the iso file for the game. Then the auto-play should start automatically.

@Barigade. Really..new to this torrent thing are ya?. Make sure you have Winrar downloaded. Anyways, find rzr-prot.001, one of those "files you cant open" and right click it. Then use WinRar to extract the file. This will extract every other file in the process and put them into one folder containing the iso file.

ok ok, i was having problems trying to set this up so far im getting past extracting, so anyone who needs help with this, you DO need a program called winrar. you can download it free(search google) or look on The Pirate Bay...oh look youre already here c:
after such said program is downloaded and installed you take the file "rzr-prot.001" and you can right click it...if it doesnt give you the option of extracting it the click on the option "OPEN WITH" then choose winrar as the default program with winrar open you can extract the file(make sure you extract the file to a disk drive that is in an NTFS format or any other format that allows unpacking of files more that 4 GB) then the rest can be followed on the instructions given with this download....ill try and help out later when i finish installing

Well I have the .iso mounted I can see the virtual drive ready to copy the crack voer but I cant see an activision folder anywhere in program files? Also when I try install it says I need to check if i have x86 or x64 OS I know i have a 64bit OS but it works for everyone else.

FOR ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE INSTALLING THIS GAME:
1.Download torrent using a program called uTorrent. It's free, and my personal favorite. Google it.
2.Download a program called "Universal Extractor" and install it. It's free too, just look for it through google.
3.For Vista/XP users download Daemon Tools lite from the Daemon Tools website. Once again, search for it on google. (For Windows 7 users, torrent a program called UltraIso. For some reason Daemon Tools doesn't like Windows 7.)
4.Double click the file that's called rzr-prot or possible rzr-prot.001 and universal extractor should start extracting. It looks like a command prompt with another window open, don't panic it's just doing it's job.
5.Once extracted there should be a folder called rzr-prot, open it and inside will be an iso. For Daemon tools you probably have to right click the little lightning bolt symbol on your taskbar and click mount image, or something like that. Then find the rzr-prot.iso and mount it. If the install doesn't start immediately, go to my computer, and double click the virtual drive that the .iso is mounted on. (For UltraIso, you should just double click the iso, and when the window pops up hit F6, then click mount. If install doesn't begin automatically, again go to my computer and find the virtual drive it's mounted to. However you might have to open the drive, and find the "Setup.exe" or "Install.exe" and run it.)

Anyone having random crashing issues?
I've played through most of the game, and it's been flawless so far. When I get to 'Red Crown Command' after the helicopter mission the cutscene plays, and as Mercer, disguised as military, runs out of the room choking from the gas my screen goes black and the game won't recover.
I was wondering if this encounter was specific to myself or if anyone else had the issue as well.

ok so i found some help and got the game working to a degree and got myself a whole new set of problems. for starters my screen is off center the entire game from the very moment i start it. i thought that i would just change the video setting in the game and it would be fine except i cant get into the game.
i got to the ?push start? screen and when i push enter it makes the openeing screener start all over again.
eventually i got frustrated and keep spaming enter and got into the game. so i went to the video settings and tried to change the rez and it wont change it. infact i cant change a single setting in the entire game.
any help that anyone can give me would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure how anybody got past the exraction. RZR-PROT opens with RAR but under "type of file" it says 001 file. Nothing shows up as a compressed file, win rar says it's corrupted or damged. I downloaded it twice.

Ok guys, I'm not about to sort through 20 something pages so I'm not sure if i'm restating something that was already said.
First, Download the game using a client.
Second, Open up WinRAR.
Third, Navigate to the dowloaded folder.
Fourth, in WinRAR, right click the first file (.001) and click extract to specified folder. Remember where you extracted it.
Fifth, in that folder there is a .iso.
(nomorenumbers too hard), mount it using the various mounting tools available.
then u navigate to the cd through my computer.
then u open it.
then click setup.
then u let it set up.
then u copy the "prototypef" thingy.
navigate to the installed directory
copy and paste it
yes remove the old one
now it works.
addon: For you guys with sound issues (the sound is not supposed to be the gravelly grinding sound) this is what you do. Navigate to you sound controller. Like in your taskbard, find the sound icon, right click it, then oopen it. Go to default styles (or formats or whatever). Change it 24 bits 48000KHZ (or lower). Should fix it. My computer is in really bad shape and you might experience a freeze, just restart it and when u come back it should be fine.
The game is worth it though guys.

Good down speed, Works PERFECTLY! I even ran it on a 1.66ghz with 2gb ram, but it was laggy, it actually ran it on low spec! so you know this game doesn't take much to play and its still got good graphics! the russian problem is easy, when i installed the installation was russian, i fixed that easy, i think its on the second or third part in the installation, it has a little dropdown menu and it has some russian version thing, and just below it is English version, so if you have the russian problem, no worries, just reinstall and go thru the installation properly, cos i got english on mine easy as pie (Y)

I'm having a problem with the installation. Now, unlike many of the noobs here, I've read the comments. Unfortunately, I have not found one that addresses the issue.
Basically, I manage to download everything, and then I start the game thing. It comes up with that box of choices that says 'Play, Uninstall, Extras, etc.'

For any of you morons you need to change the settings in your sound. All of you have far too much latency with your soundcard.
Basically you go into your sound options in the taskbar and turn the sample rate down. Most of you morons would have it set to max or something and then your crappy little computer would be freaking out when too many sounds in the background need to be buffered.
Then after turning it down a notch or two.. I have mine set at the default: 24bit 48000Hz (Studio Quality) you should be fine. Everything should play cool afterwards.
Get a better computer before you start messing around with the sample rate... dumbasses.
