iPortable OSx86 Bootable Leopard USB stick image [good]

Description:
There was something wrong with the first upload...
OSx86 iPortable USBlivestick-image 10.5.2 INTEL only (sse2/sse3) EFI V8 with universal chameleon bootloader..
Re-ripped, rebuild and tweaked by Protocol-X to make this Leopard.. The very first Portable (USB) Live edition...
Note: it is slow running on older PC's running from an USB stick..Main reason is the limitation in speed on a USB stick.. it's meant to repair and rescue your current OS, or clone it to your harddrive or other destination....If it won't boot, try to install Chameleon bootloader on destination.. otherwise.. It's bad luck.. your PC isn't supported.. (you always can try to hack the BIOS firmware of your motherboard.......die hards only !!)
you can find HELP on:
# kalyway.DVD irc.osx86.hu
# leopard irc.osx86.hu
# www.muzzle.nl (Dutch Hackintosh community)
# OSx86 Hackintosh forums spread over the whole wide .net...
# When your network card driver is installed, try Firefox... there are interesting OSx86 links...
Read carefully !!!
AMD not supported, INTEL only [SSE2/SSE3] or higher.. (for AMD you always can try patch it after cloning..)
English only !! All languages and other platform system architectures are removed !! except dutch option is left in..(je zult alsnog Nederlands apart moeten installeren als gij dat wenst..)
You can always re-install this languages etc. very easy afterwards..
TO INSTALL:
You can use CarbonCopyCloner 3, DriveGenius 2, or other cloner.. Select this included diskimage as source disk, or mount it first...then select mounted partition/Try to force a clone on block-level !! [try to force a clone on a location where you can unmount both source and destination (the only easy and proper way to do this is with 2 physcally USB and/or harddrives already installed..) But is also possible to have succes without unmouting the drives (source and destination) Always try
to unmount destination disk first.....
Clonetools H1. With Clonetools H1 choose Hackingtosh architecture, and clone it to your desired location (disk to disk)!
Always Repair your Permissions after cloning..
If it won't boot after cloning.. Install Chameleon bootloader on the destination disk, it should be bootable from a USB stick.....or your PC isn't supported..
Login:
User = protocolxleohacked
Password = x
iTunes, iChat, Mail, iPhoto, DVD Player etc.. are removed..
All videodrivers are removed.. to prevent problems on some systems !! Except some Intel videodrivers are left in..
Spotlight is disabled, you can turn it on with cache Cleaner..
Install your own OSx86 videodriver after cloning.. OSx86 Tools folder can help.......
After succes you can enable QuartzExtreme 2D for even more video acceleration with Quartzsimple in OSX Utilities folder.. With video-hardware acceleration Leopard should be running like hell..
Don't try to install OS system updates, unless you know exactly what you're doing !!
based on Universal x86 DVD 10.5.2 version of Kalyway..
based on slipstream script by DENSE ! ;)
ich9 support by DUNE ! ;)
Re-ripped, rebuild and tweaked by ProtocolX ! :)
Notes: If you have problems with booting your (USB) Drive after cloning, install Chameleon bootloader on the destination disk.
To get a higher resolution without a videodriver hit F8 at Darwin's promt and type: "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32"
more options for Darwin's promt:
* -f This forces rebuilding of extensions cache
* -s Boots into a single user command line mode
* -v Verbose, boots in text mode showing all debug info and errors
* -x Boots into safe mode
* rd=disk0s1 - Tells Darwin to boot from a certain partition specified in BSD format.
(Disk 0 specifies first HDD and s1 specifies first partition as 0 is the MBR.)
* cpus=1 Tells the system how many CPUs or cores to use, useful for Core Duo users.
* platform=X86PC - Can be used if problems with normal booting, ACPI is another option here
* -legacy Boots OS X in 32bit mode rather than 64bit if 64bit is used due to a 64bit processor
* idehalt=0 May stop stuttering
If you need to copy the bootloader to the MBR use this command:
fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0

Extracted size of .ZIP is 7.51 GBSize of files on image is about 5.47 GB
.DMG is a read/write image, so you can make your own OSx86 image, if you like...
Clone to the Fastest USB stick you have..one with about 8GB will do..
You also can clone to a solid state disk, or just your internal drive..
Have fun !!

Let me know how it boots on other PC's, cause my choice was limited in differents systems...alloqba (2008-12-01)
Looks interesting, thank you!utdarkviper (2008-12-05)
I'll give it a go on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and my custom build quadcore desktop and let you know the results.bogdanw (2008-12-05)
I couldn't get it to work on a 8G USB Stick but works great from a hard drive. I used WinImage to write the dmg to the hard. Unfortunately it works only with the integrated video card of myIntel® Desktop Board D915GLVG. How can i install support for Nvidia Fx5200 PCI (not pci express)?

0 peers? come on guys, seed!titanxt (2008-12-09)
it worked for me.Here's what I did :
I downloaded VMWare and a VMware installation of Mac OS X 10.5.5
I ran the VMware image of Mac OS X 10.5
I installed Clone Tools
I mounted my external USB drive
I used Disk Utilities to Format my 500Gb in 3 partitions : 1 NFTS for Windows, 1 MAC HFS+ of 100Gb and 1 HFS+ of 20Gb's for Mac data files
I used Clone tools to extact the the USB image onto the second partition of my 500Gb USB drive.
I closed VMWare, restarted Vista, pressed the F12 key at the BIOS screen to choose boot order, and selected the External USB drive.
It booted into the iPortable.
Comments :
The installation is far from the default Mac installation. The biggest annoyance is the absence of Mail.app and the fact that spotlight is disabled. You can enable spotlight with CacheCleaner however.
This really is "meant to repair and rescue your current OS, or clone it to your harddrive or other destination..." There is a LOT of tools meant to tweak, customize, and pretty much do whatever you want to OSX
There is a custom background, a dock that is not resizable by default, and useful utilities to install drivers.

Thanks for the tip to install it from Windows...I was working on an PC iso image ....
My XP was busy taking too much time from me....
I had to quit ...
I knew it was useless, to make a new image.. because I already had one..
But when I converted the image with terminal .. The .ISO was only accessible in OSX..
I think this is the best way to install from windows
How long took it.. to install it from VMWare?
PROTOCOLX (2008-12-09)
I have a newer and better iPortable 10.5.4 right now wating for a upload.. (intel optimized) with a lot more networkcard and wireless drivers and tools included..Little bit smaller.....but with ALL system and software is updated...
newer kernels added..
10.5.5 Graphic's update included
Added Hackingtosh tools
EFI 9.0
and more ...
coming very soon !!

To answer your question about how much time it took:The main task is extracting and moving large files. You basically need a fast processor and a fast HD and it will go fast.
My Latitude XT is running on a 1.8inch 5400rpm HD and 1.2Ghz Core 2 Duo 2MB cache processor. So it's not crazy fast. The HD's average read speed is 30Mb/s and the external HD/s speed is 20Mb/s because it is limited to the USB port speed.
The VMware image of Mac OS X 10.5 takes about 10 min to extract (1.9 Gb file)
Extracting the USB image takes about 15 minutes. (3.2.Gb)
Moving the USB image file to VMware took about 20 min.
Extracting the USB file to the USB hard drive took about 35 min.
Any recent core 2 duo desktop should get vastly improved results.
If you could keep the Mail.app in your next release, I would greatly appreciate!
Can't wait to try it out. I will probably install it using your Portable 10.5.2 as the transfer speeds will definitely be faster natively than in VMware.
PROTOCOLX (2008-12-09)
Yes it will be a lot faster.. But thanks for the info...I promise you and all the others,.. I shall upload the file in the weekend or before the weekend (so this week..)
It's worth it... My PC is a Pentium 4 (3.2Ghz) 3GB memory (400Mhz) i noticed a better performance in this 10.5.4 version, also it felt more stable on my 8GB stick...
The first time I was really amazed Leopard was running from a USB stick...
10.5.5 is really difficult to get it working on my old pentium 4...
But impossible... no I don't think so....
shall upload soon !!
Cheers !! PROTOCOL X

I used Clone Tools on the USB installation to create another identical USB installation for testing purposes on the same external Hard drive. This time, it took 8 minutes to extract (vs 35min on VMware.)Also, I was wondering if you tried to install iLife or iWork or Toast. Upon installing any of these three programs in any order, they crash and do not launch. I tried installing these programs on my Powerbook, and it worked right away.
The same thing happened when I tried to install them on VMware machine running 10.5.5 iDeneb.
Is it just me? Anyone else tried installing these programs ?
PROTOCOLX (2008-12-10)
No it's not just you.... I think the reason is NO Core Image and Quartz Extreme.. This can only be enabled with the right videocarddriver.Toast from version 8 needs this, otherwise it crashes instantly.. The same for iLife etc..
That's the reason why I didn't put toast in iPortable, but Simplyburns..

Extracting iPortable X86 USB image.dmgError: Unable to extract "C:\Documents and Settings\x\My Documents\Downloads\iPortable x86 Bootable Leopard USB stick image\iPortable X86 USB image.dmg".
The size of the extracted file (8053063680) does not match the uncompressed size
Both Winrar and Winzip cannot decompress it?
titanxt (2008-12-10)
Oh...Well that would suck then, because I don't have a supported Video Card...there are no drivers for the ATI Radeon Xpress 1250.Its good to know, though, I will stop wasting my time trying to get them to work. At least iPhoto works fine.
Realphx: DMG is more or less a Mac file format. you can't use Winzip or Winrar to extract.
If you read the instructions carefully, you can see how to install it :

What if I only have a Windows PC, and not a mac... Can I extract the contents of the .dmg to the usb stick somehow? Thanks,
Berry
