The story covers a group of society men placing wagers on the existence of the paranormal, and a group of circus charlatans as their victims. A lovely, if a bit slutty, performance by Bibi Andersson. And a cross-dressing Ingrid Thulin... Try to avoid the Criterion "Seventh Seal" extras before viewing this, as it presents most of the last 15 minutes of the film - what a silly idea. There are a couple of errors in the subtitles, but nothing too annoying. For some reason a Chinese character crops up in Gunnar Björnstrand's name, Vergerus, for what reason I have no idea - usually happens with those funny Swedish letters.
