Release notes: The Swedish band Bad Habit is already for more than twenty years one of the best A.O.R.-acts hailing from Scandinavia and in my opinion have never gotten the recognition for this that they deserve. The band has released seven albums up to now, of which the 1998 release ‘Adult Orientation’ is seen by many including myself as their very best. The new record ‘Above And Beyond’ is very much in the same vein as that record and show a more melodic approach than what they’ve shown on their last album, the Frontiers release ‘Hear-Say’ from 2005. Bad Habit has the great gift to write songs that are on one hand quite heavy and on the other hand very melodic and is really capable to write the most fantastic choruses, which you just can’t seem to get out of your head after a few listens. Thirteen A.O.R. gems are to be found on ‘Above And Beyond’, which are also accompanied by the very necessary crystal clear sound by producer Jonas Reingold. Best tracks for me are the first single and opening track ‘I Don’t Want You’, the ballad ‘Let Me Be The One’, the very catchy ‘A Lot To Learn’ and the title track ‘Above And Beyond’ (talk about a fantastic chorus!), but I immediately have to add that the other nine songs are also very worthwhile checking out. I am of the opinion that, together with Kurt Vereecke’s Frozen Rain release of a couple of months ago, this is one of the best pure A.O.R.-releases of this year.
