In case any of you don't know, MPEG4/divx/xvid/avi is a newer compression format that allows you to get more video data onto a DVD, thus smaller file sizes. Standard DVDs are in the older MPEG2 format which isn't as compressed and takes up much more space. The only benefit to the older format is that it takes much less technology to decode. Thus, an MPEG2 file will generally play faster on a slower computer and was what was needed on original "dumb" DVD players. Out here in Canada-Land MPEG4 DVD players are selling for as low as $60 canuck bucks retail so having one is pretty handy. This XviD plays fine on my no-name brand player.
