Movie: It's a masterpiece, or, at least, almost a masterpiece (high are the standards of perfection at this court).
You shouldn't watch it as a horror movie. It isn't. It's a tragedy, a little in the style of old Greek tragedies, with music (a very unique soundtrack featuring Bartok, amongst other great composers) and photography combining to create the main theme. Some very good acting by Jack Nicholson.
BTW - is this the director's cut?

This is the 2h23m edit, with the airport/garage scene, the skeletons scene, and a few extended scenes as well. It has become my favorite edit over the years, but, althoug they are no "director cut", Kubrick, allegedly, preferred the much shorter theatrical edit.

agreed ... this is my fave cut as well ... hate to disagree with a genius like kubrick but the longer version is the best ... stomach churning tension ... absolutely one of the best films period ... always thought that and always will ... i understand it is very different from the king novel which i also love but i can handle it not being a direct translation of the novel ... why other's brains can't make this little jump into another genius' vision is beyond me ... but i'm ramblin ;) love it, love it, thanks for the awesome up (as always from sceretmyth group)
