Description:

Source:DVD Format: .mkv Running time: 53 minutes Org year: 2005 Size: 755MB ripped by myself As US troops were committed in ever-increasing numbers in the 1960s to protect South Vietnam from Communist takeover, it became clear they faced a double enemy in both the Viet Cong and the inhospitiable South-East Asian terrain. The helicopter turned the tide, revolutionizing the face of warfare at a stroke and laying down a blueprint for the future. With much previously classified film footage shot both on the ground and in the air, this program examines the integral role played by the helicopter. Among the many challenges faced by U.S. forces during the Vietnam War, none was more pervasive than the rough terrain of southeast Asia. The American military found its solution in the helicopter, whose abilities to fly at low altitudes, land in small areas, quickly transport troops and supplies, and provide aerial weaponry such as mounted machine guns and rocket launchers were perfectly suited to the needs of jungle warfare. Part of THE WAR ZONE series, this documentary reveals how and why the helicopter became such an integral part of Vietnam combat through interviews, voice-over narration, and previously classified film footage.
