I tried it on asa5510, required 1 gig of memory inside the ASA. Standard is 256Mb. I shall have to try to locate a different 8.x version of the iOS

can't believe I'm writing this almost 3 years later, the IOS works, however it has a bug with SSH. One minute it works, then suddenly, you're not able to SSH on a particular interface. In my case it was the INSIDE. So I had to SSH from an outside IP that I allowed. I tried to disable SSH from the inside, then reapply it and it threw the error that something else was using the SSH service already. Confirmed bug with cisco on 8.4(1) release and I promptly upgraded to 8.4(2) and solved the issue. The even more weird thing was thankfully I had the ASA in a failover cluster and I could SSH to my failover unit. Forced it to primary and then upgraded one at a time so downtime was nil. Hope this helps people.
