The "A" Team Barry Sadler (November 1, 1940 – September 8, 1989) was an American author and musician. Sadler served as a Green Beret medic and Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Most of his works have military themes, and he billed himself under his military rank of Staff Sergeant as SSgt Barry Sadler.

Apparently the single version of Ballad of the Green Beret spent years in the US charts and was so much an institution that no-one else would record it. An instrumental version was released in the UK by the Alan Moorhouse Orchestra on, if I remember correctly, the Pye Label. London Bridge was the B side. How sad is that!!
