Description:

Waninkoko's Backup Loader (LEAKED BETA) Sep 18th 2008 Guide/FAQ By Praetor This is a LEAKED BETA, not intended for public use and NOT SUPPORTED OR CONDONED BY WANINKOKO. This software comes with no warranty expressed or implied; any risk of using the software is if your choosing and is not my fault, Nintendo's fault, Waninkoko's fault, or anyone else's. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Use of this software may void your Nintendo Wii's Warranty. Use at your own risk. Created By: Waninkoko (wii.waninkoko.info) Beta Tested By: Linkinworm (Vids) Brakken (http://www.tehskeen.com/) Needs: CIOS Rev 5 (beta?) DVDX ("for now") Windows Executable Patcher, may work on Linux with Wine, or on Mac OS X with virtualization/bootcamp Patched ISO The Loader Wii WAD Manager SD Card Wii Remote Twilight Princess Twilight Hack Savegame Homebrew Channel DO NOT ASK FOR ISOs. Loader/cIOS/Patcher DVDX WAD Manager Twilight Hack Homebrew Channel ImgBurn How to Use (Experienced Homebrew user): 1. Acquire all files. 2. Put the iso in the same directory of the backup-creator with the common-key file. 3. Patch the ISO with the .exe that came in the download. 4. Install the CIOS on your Wii 5. Install DVDX. Go to Advanced and choose 249 6. Install Wii Loader 7. Burn the patched ISO with ImgBurn 8. Run the loader Newbie Guide (Thanks zidane_genome!) Part One: Preparing the Loader 1. Configure your SD card for homebrew. Learn about some of the basic concepts and most used programs in using homebrew, such as the Twilight Hack and the Homebrew Channel. Learn more here. 2. Rename the dvd-backup.dol file to boot.dol and create a folder titled "Loader". Place the .dol in the folder. Find some graphic/xml files to fill in for now, or make your own. 3. Place the CIOS36_rev5-64-v1042.wad file in the wad directory of your SD card. 4. Place the backup loader files (boot.dol, icon.png, meta.xml) in the Loader folder, and put the Loader folder in the apps folder on your SD Card. 5. Place the DVDX installer in a folder titled "DVDX" (without quotes) and put that in the apps folder on your SD card. 6. Place the WAD manager folder in your apps folder on your SD card. 7. Boot the Homebrew channel. Part Two: Wii Setup. Only do these steps ONCE. 1. Install cIOS via the WAD Manager. 2. Install DVDX. If you have the option to Uninstall on the menu, DO THAT FIRST. 3. Navigate in the menu to "ADVANCED". Press LEFT or RIGHT on the Wii remote until you get to IOS249. Install it. Now you are ready to get some games and play them on your Wii. Part Three: Getting and Playing games on Your Wii 1. Find an ISO and download it (DON'T ASK WHERE TO GET THEM HERE). 2. Patch the game ISO. Put the ISO in the same directory of the backup-creator with the common-key file, RIGHT CLICK the ISO, and select OPEN WITH. Find the backup creator and select it. 3. Wait for this process to be done, and then burn the newly created file to a DVD (recommendation: Verbatim DVD-R) using the free ImgBurn. 4. Put your disc in the Wii. Boot up your Wii and load the Backup Loader from the Homebrew Channel. Note for NTSC (US/Japan) users: You MUST use component cables or a VGA box. The Standard Wii A/V cables seem to give the vsync/black and white issues with this beta. Rumors: Official Release in October? DVDX not needed? (for "final" release) Doesn't (yet?) work with GC Games? Some things show up as Black and White only? It seems so far that with HD cables or VGA, NTSC works. Without them, they do not. Known Facts: Can only read at 3x speed, resulting in longer load times. More glitches for NTSC so far. Can use out of region games. Cannot use existing burnt backups, MUST use patcher first. Scrubbed games WORK!!!! Need to Know (Info Not Yet Obtained): Game Patching (aka Manhunt 2 remove censors, SSBB textures)? Works online? Errors: Error: "cant find partition title key". Solution: Put the ISO in the same directory of the backup-creator with the common-key file, RIGHT CLICK the iso, and go OPEN WITH backup creator. Compatibility List: Green: Playable with no or very minor bugs. Orange: Playable, with bugs. Red: Unplayable/Doesn't Work Wii Chess (PAL) NOTES: SMG (PAL) NOTES: LoZ TP (PAL) NOTES: LoZ TP NTSC NOTES: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PAL) NOTES: Burn Speed 4x, Cinematics have graphical bugs. Waninkoko is not pleased. You do know that, right?

Waninkoko #News#
2008/09/19 - Congratulations! I don't care about who leaked Backup-Loader but now it's OFFICIALLY an abandoned project. Enjoy it.
to bad ;)

Wiidjat (2008-09-21)

don't seed this waninkoko doesn't want this to be distributed !!! thanks to some beta tester who leaked this he almost stopped working on this project !!!!

MisterOhm (2008-09-21)

Thank GBATemp. They released it and promoted it.

salamance (2008-09-22)

Who cares if you use it now?
Waninkoko has abandoned the project.
He's releasing the source for someone to continue it.
The damage is already done, so just enjoy it while you can.
Tested this with SPM NTSC, on a PAL Wii (no mod chip).
Bought the actual game, which took 5 bloody months to reach PAL territories. That shit is too long.

salamance (2008-09-22)

Just to clarify, I meant I tested with a burned copy of Super Paper Mario.
Used Wii Brick Blocker on it aaaages ago, also.
Works fine.

I got:
[+] ERROR: Could not retrieve ISO info!
[+] Press any key to exit...
on the backup-creator, any idea what might be??

K9KAT (2008-09-26)

worked fine on wii sports island but tried on mario kart and imgburn wont open the partition.iso.... the modded iso is alot smaller too....

Gnappo84 (2008-09-27)

Here I am:
De Blob PAL (English) on a PAL Wii, burned at 2,4X is WORKING. The game runs perfectly while CG videos lose some frames and loadings take awhile. So I would say ORANGE for this game.
IMPORTANT:
I figured out how to fix a common error called "ERROR! Ret = -4100" that appears while loading the disk from the ISO Loader. It's a burning issue: just follow these steps:
1) Open IsoLoader
2) Click on Write image to disk
3) Click on the little book icon in the bottom-right corner
4) Choose your DVD brand (if you don't owe a listed brand you have to solve this manually by downloading some hacked firmware... I don't know how to do it so don't ask me)
5) On "Change for" choose "Drive for DVD+R media"
6) On "new setting" choose DVD-ROM
7) Click CHANGE and hit OK.
Now burn your DVD with a DVD+R. This should solve the -4100 error.
Enjoy!!!

Gnappo84 (2008-09-27)

@dodgydogman you didn't install DVDX correctly. Uninstall it, then reinstall by selecting ADVANCED and IOS249.

FERRARI CHALLENGE TROFEO PIRELLI (PAL) on a PAL Console.
Burn speed: 2,4X
TV Mode: HDTV
Working: YES
Issues: Loadings take long time, sometimes freezes while selecting the tracks, minor graphical bugs

anthrax79 (2008-10-02)

Whoooo... Excellent Guide! I was able to install everything and back up all of my games! I borrowed the Legends of Zelda from BB since I don't want it anyway just to get the Home Brew installed.
I use it on the wired USB LAN adapter with the WiFi profile and it works fine 475Kb/s. The only thing I can't figure out, sometimes when making a backup, I get ERROR! (ret = -116), where can I find out what the error codes mean so I can fix the problem? If I try a few times, I always get it to work.
Thanks for the excellent upload!!

blastfire17 (2008-10-25)

WHO CARES?!! this is stupid shit! I have D2PRO the best chip on the market.

Venndettta (2008-11-26)

DVD+R works fine too with WiiGator's 0.3 release ;)

zarathustra2k1 (2009-02-04)

crook16 (2009-06-26)

waninkoko can suck our dicks...

smund3 (2009-08-06)

Show Waninkoko some respect, jerks! Without people like him the term homebrew wouldn't even exist!
And to blastfire17: THIS IS NO STUPID SHIT! Chips and keys are for cowards (like you). And if you have such an amazing chip then why did you even bother looking at this torrent? I think you're just a looser who can't get this to work and try to cover it with a chip you don't even possess.

webcamvidz (2009-08-16)

Warninko is a crybaby and always has been one....
His releases are not very accepted in the Wii scene and most people avoid them until somebody trusted modded them....
He definately had his hand in this leak, maybee it even has been himself releasing that leak like Valve who have had theyr hands in the HL2 leak years back...
